  1. Buttys bits i think!

  2. Thanks for the reply SweeneyTodd, unfortunately the PO cut off the runners on the drivers side!! So also need to find them as well -been told the best place for that is getting it cut off one for parts. Reet pain this.

  3. Yeah proper pain int arse! You could try @davidoft for some cut off runners. I don't think the ebay ones fit prototype bay seats but I'm not certain? Best of luck

  4. Thanks all of you!. I've checked passenger seat tub and no brackets or even holes drilled for them, so I reckon new tub was fitted and the Rover seats bolted straight in!. But then why is driver side tub still in such good condition with seat runners still welded in. Sweeney Todd is right. I have some late bay runners and they don't fit prototype bay seats and my '73 build /'74 reg bus has the prototype bay runners in situ. Most confusing. If Justin Pyfrom want images of underside of seats or runners in place I can send them. Email me at linda.miles@keme.co.uk and I'll forward.

  5. It's possible the passenger side tub was replaced with an after market spare? In our bus the passenger seat base brackets were welded not bolted in place but then have been cut out leaving the bottom portion still attached. Someone then fitted some god awful velour seats complete with their own runners by drilling both tubs with what looks like 12mm+ holes, our bay needs no more holes in it!! Going in for partial resto (chassis welding, new/repaired panels, brakes etc) with Dave Race (Buggy Dave) at Accrington Beetles & Campers on Monday, been waiting since August to get him in. I will be in the market for a good condition (no rust or welded patches) RHD Front Beam & reasonable condition rear hatch if anyone reading this thread has one or knows where I can get one. I think Dave will be using Schofields for most of the other parts needed. ££££££££££££

  6. Sounds like yours is like ours - a bottomless pit if you let it!. Can't help with front beam or hatch I'm afraid. We also had awful velour seats (Rover?) which couldn't slide onto - replaced with Saab leather -lovely comfy seats but too high for SWMBO so now going prototype bay. Best of luck with resto.

  7. No Problem thanks anyway, I'm sure something will turn up. Dave seems like a sound guy although I've only met him once, he reckons we can visit "Victor" (yes the wife & kids named our bay too) anytime & he takes photographs of all the stages of work being carried out, so don't think we'll have a problem there (apart from the obvious funds).
It will be worth it in the end.

Only late late bays have runners for the passenger seat. The passenger seat hooks onto two small brackets, the inner one of which is bolted in place and the outer spot welded and easy to remove without a trace. The back hooks onto another easily removeable screwed on fitting.

  14. Hi Zed - thanks for this. Image is most helpful. is there any reason why one is welded and the other bolted? I can see now location on seat bracket, just in front of rib app. 20 cm forward of bulkhead?. I presume the inner one is same distance. Backrest is no problem and the backplate is still in situ, just missing the 'hook' Is that about 6mm dia rod bent and flattened at ends. Boltholes appear to accept M5 bolts.

Yes to most of that. The outer is welded to save piercing the tub / captive nuts where it would be sprayed with water? I have no idea really. You can see the inner holes just about on my pic. I took it off and fitted it to a framework spanning the walkway to convert to a double passenger seat. Yes to the hook descrition. They're all M6

Somebody does sell the base brackets nowadays but I forget who.

  17. Buddy's Bits £23 or Karmann Konnection £30 I think.
Back rest brackets from C&C at £45 which is a bit steep when I only need half the set!

  18. @tiggertoes prototype bay seats ebay £52 search front seats from classic vw split screen prototype bay for restoration
