Cheers guys Ill be on the look out for either in the future as ive decided not to use that floor heater i allready have Its a fantastic bit of kit but hanging below the bus like that id rip it off when im going over the rough stuff
i fitted my propex myself. It took a whole day but you can do it. all the instructions are very easy to follow. you need a HSS hole cutter set with 30mm cutter . some sharp drill bits. copper 8mm microbore gas pipe. some flexi orange gas hose and a Brass T piece to t off your cooker bottle. No idea about erspachers.
That looks like a BN4 easy to fit to a Bay, there are Eberspacher instructions specificly to fit a Bay
it looks very neat. think i've seen one on my mechanics kubelwagen. i only get heat in the bug on a long motorway drive, all other journeys are sponsored by the north face and damart thermals
do propex do a heater that runs off petrol? seems a better idea than carrying another gas bottle or is it a bad idea having apetrol heater inside the cargo area?
Installation manual for a Bay http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/bn4_installation_instructions_1972_up_bus.php
Other instructions http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/heater_ac.php Ive just fitted one to mine but i didnt use the square ducting shown as it would foul a R,N,R bed, i just piped it in with ducting like in the piccy
I thought about mounting it on springs so it could move up and out of the way a little In reality it wont work and will get bent on somthing Rough terrain and stuff protruding from the bottom of the vehicle is allways going to end in disaster Ive cracked the diff housing on a landrover before and that was just on a farm track
If you haven't already, I'd try it out while it's in the beetle before going to the trouble of moving it.
^this: give it a run in the Beetle first. Will save a lot of hassle if it's a duffer. Then give it a good clean and checking over, esp the heat exchanger for any leaks and the overheat switches. I prefer more modern Ebers, as they're smaller and brainier, but a BN4 should work well. If you install a Propex, people will naturally assume you're on benefits ...
This is roughly how far it would sit below the sills I would like to keep it as being warm rocks and to change to a propex or erber would lose me interior space and cost me lots of money Im just really worried about ripping the thing out of the floor on rough terrain
