Propex or erberspacher

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by icepug, Mar 1, 2013.

  1. Looking to but heating in van and wanted to know people thoughts on the above. Pros and cons for both sides would be nice. Or are there other options?!? Cheers in advance guys and girls

  2. Can't say about eber but I've a propex and i love it, the only con I can think of is running out of gas. An under slung tank would be good. :D

  3. I think I'm going to go down the webasto air top 2000 petrol version as is saves on not having another fuel tank.....watch out though its jeffing pricey !

  4. Not sure what propex heaters are like but eberspachers are bloody noisy (for everyone camping around you;) ) unless a silencer is fitted to the exhaust, and possibly the inlet.

It's good to let the plebs know you're toasty. :)

my propex is good, carpet tile under but kept away from pipes as they are the bits that get hot not noisy for me

  7. ^this. It's worth letting the working classes know that you can afford an Eberspaecher. You've probably got one on your yacht as well ;)

Ebers in yachts are diesels for safety reasons and cause nothing but trouble by all accounts. They don't run well on bog standard diesel and coke up so you have to fork out the mahoosive tax and buy low-sulphur stuff instead, which being twice the price, nobody wants to. They get through it too. Petrol for the win.

  9. I normally run mine on cognac, so not a problem...

  10. I've got the old red propex heater in my camper and its been as good as gold. Dad has the eberspacher in his camper and it cost 180quid to get it plugged in and a sensor changed the other week! Electronics! Don't get me wrong, it's a good heater but costly!

  11. We have a propex HS2000. it is brilliant. Contact bluebird customs, they gave the best price when I bought one. got a 10% discount for getting it from a show.

  12. Are erbers any good then?!? I like the idea of not have to have an extra gas bottle on board.

Ebers are great but expensive to buy. Just the same as a propex but burns petrol. 1/2 ltr per hour or so.

  14. Where can I get one supplies and fitted?!? Any ideas

  15. I don't think eberspacher do a petrol variant anymore - so you'd need an additional tank for the diesel ......I guess that's why proper Is popular? The only petrol one I've found is the webasto air top 2000. Cheers. Jason

  16. Believe Ebers bought Webasto a while ago.

  17. Which is cheaper to run a petrol erber or a gas propex?

I would have said an Eber was cheaper but from what Zed has posted about 1/2 litre per hour, the Propex works out cheaper by about £3 over 27 hours.

That's approx, I can't even remember where I read it, but looks like the cost about the same to run then? 70p/hour - cheap at the price. but it's cheaper really as it won't be running all the time. I did run mine continuously for about 4 hours once while it was snowing outside and it was ridiculously hot in there - I had to open a window. :)

  20. Why do you need and extra gas bottle? you can put a manifold into the line for your cooker and run a line to the heater, unless you dont have a cooker of course!!

We have gone for a different option. We have the gas for the cooker, so went for a Truma E2400, 2.4 kilowatts of heat, with a very low power drain, and it can be run on LPG when we get round to a conversion!!

the heater is boxed and mounted under the bus, and plumbed into the standard heating tube, so when the hot vent is selected off on the dash, the heaters heat is then directed into the bus through the dash, foot, and rear vents.Well hidden as the only mod inside is the thermostat. and extremely quiet, it just makes a really low rumble when its running.

unlike the eber jet engine being fired up!!

Insulating the bus, and using thermo mats onthe windows has also made a huge differenceto running costs.
