I think I've said this before, the banks are obliged to hold paper records for around 7 years....PPI only really came in to focus 11 years ago, before that it's extremely doubtful they have records.

Each has set aside a war chest, in billions, to pay off those wrongly sold.

I am not saying make fraudulent claims, but I had two loans where they had added it without my consent (I'm self employed, PPI would never pay out so I never signed up to it) that I was compensated for.

Banks weren't taken to court over selling policies to those that they informed, they were taken for adding policies and hiding them....I was not aware I was paying for PPI.

If you've had any borrowing from 18 years ago ish, it's worth investigating PPI, so credit cards, mortgages, loans etc.

  2. Under the circumstances of both breakages, it was far more beneficial to stay under the radar and say nothing......

  3. I've done one check via Lloyds TSB that came back clear, but I've since thought about the Endowment policy linked to our first repayment mortgage 23 years ago, problem being that we were advised to cash the Endowment in when they started failing and the company (Winterthur?) has long since dissappeared.

Are there any internet claims sites that allow you to check merely by putting some basic details in?

  4. What’s the size of your endowment? Asking for a friend.

  5. It was big. Obviously.

Seriously, I can't remember, other than we were about 10 years into a £50k mortgage. We lost a bit, but only a bit less than the break even point.

    Do they still sell endowments?

  6. Don't think so. They stopped that racket.

  7. I had a massive endowment but over the years it's withered away to nothing and now only comes up when Jasmin Harman comes on that telebox thing.

Not to my knowledge, I'm afraid.

However....if I put it this way....some of these institutions have zero evidence of your documents and contracts. The claims process, from what I can see, allowes for those normal people that don't hold docs for years and years to give details from their recollections, you don't need complete proof.

It's worth a try, get one of the no win no fee mobs in and let them hunt it down.
