  1. Hey guys, thought id edit this post instead of start a new one.. im looking at buying a 2nd hand genuine vw 1600 TP cylinder head off Ebay.
my question is.. is there a chance this could be a leaded cylinder head? and how could i tell?

    cheers

hey guys, went to change the push rod tubes today, started cleaning the valves etc and found a nice big crack between the two valves on one of the cylinder heads.

so now i need to get a new cylinder head, what do i need to do to the new head? the valves arent already in there..

so im guessing ill need a spring compressor to put the valve springs and collets on. do i need to buy valve grinding paste to use on the valves or should i not need to do this as its new?

    carl.

  2. you'll need to grind in the valves to make sure they are seating properly!!

and yeah, you'll need a spring compressor 8)

  3. Best to lap new valves in. Easy to do with your sucker on a stick.

  4. What condition are the original valves in?

If there not the best id replace them with new valves whilst your at it

Dont forget to lift and turn the grinding tool once in a while and a dab of grease helps keeps the collets in place whilst you release the compressor

  5. not sure what the valves are like on the other side, everything looks filthy though so if i have to put the valves in one side i may aswell take the other side apart and clean it up/refurb

when i buy the new valves for the good head... do i need to buy the valve springs and collets too?
ive just bought the spring tool and grinding paste.

  6. If it were me and i had the money id replace the springs and collets at the same time but then again other people wouldent

  9. Cool, took the other head off and gave a quick clean and looks to be fine, looks as though it has been replaced not too long ago actually.

Whats the best way to clean this head? Ive heard some people say cheap coke then dishwasher?

  10. Barbecue cleaner or oven cleaner . It'll make a mess in the dishwasher plus the old oil is carsnergenic (?)
