Porsche 356

Discussion in 'Late Bay Parts Classifieds' started by TomEv86, Aug 11, 2018.

  1. After seeing a few for sale at mega money I have found a couple that need loads of work at about 20K, im really tempted to buy one, I know it will cost a fortune but I was thinking of a long term project / investment!
Anyone had anything to do with them?
Any idea where to get parts for them?
    Cheers

  2. Do it

    Do it!

Other than that, I have no sensible advice.

Oh, just remembered my mate is building a replica.. some of the prices he has had to pay for tiny little Porsche parts have been eye watering! And very often the eye wateringly expensive parts have been close to scrap, because that's all there is....

So, in retrospect, don't do it unless you have a very healthy budget and an understanding wife...

Parts can be very expensive, like £4000 for a front or rear clip , door skins are crazy money, engine rebuild £10k minimum, I’ve done a few , look at the one on my Facebook page, and that’s not a really rough one

Brother in law building a kit as said hen parts are not cheep I think a window cost £400 and dash switches need a second mortgage

  11. These are unibody cars and rust worse than a bay this makes resto dlightly more complicated. Most of the ones you'll find for 20k will be like a patch work quilt, with plate over plate over plate.
You could easily throw 20k into welding and panels alone coupled with a 5k paint job and you've not even touched the interior or engine  these are money pits albeit beatiful money pits!
Ive fancied a coupe or speedster replica for a while now but with prices just getting silly i'm out, I just dont see 25k in a beetle donor car with a fibreglass body!

But hey what do i know :D

If it ends up looking like this , it would be a good investment.
This was only a tad under 1 million

  13. I think at £20k you should definitely do it, but please bear in mind that I'm a bit of an idiot and have been drinking wine since I got home from work.

  19. My mate got one worth a whopping £160,000 plus I could think of 160’000
Some kid scratch the paint work so he’s decided to have it sanded down to bear metal and a new paint job. How the other half live.

Do you know how much overriders are for them? £2500

    Buy it and break it
