Photo Of Bowden Cable Attachment to Torsion tube

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by keithandtrudystype2, Mar 31, 2013.

  1. Anyone got a photo of the bracket attachment to the torsion tube, I think I may have an issue?

  2. What bracket? the one that goes onto the gearbox or the other end?
I do know that when I changed my bowden tube I took the bracket off the gearbox (not necessary) and the alloy had turned to dust and the threads were gone, put it back on using some locklite threadlock and hoped for the best, ok more than a year later

  3. The other end ie towards the front where the other end of the Bowden cable conduit sits (opposite end to gearbox end)..

  4. I'm just about to go out with the missus now, if no one has put a picture up by the morning I'll see if I can get one

  5. Found this picture on the web, if this is normal, I have a problem, mine as already been bodged, will post it tomorrow when I get a photo of it, maybe the reason why I have had issues with the clutch...will raise a few eyebrows me thinks Clutch Cable Attachment.JPG

ha haa  it looks much much better than that now, don't worry!!

  10. The clutch cable conduit should dangle from two "hangers" welded to the torsion bar tube...one hefty one and one not so hefty. Haven'y got a pic, I'm afraid.

These often rot through. If the metal conduit's unsupported, you'll have horrible clutch judder.

  11. Oh perhaps mine is ok after all then, certainly the one as shown on my previous picture is not doing anything, will post pics tommorrow

Well someone's repaired it to the best of their ability no doubt. If anything the steel conduit looks a little short, but is it solid?

  14. there is slight flex movement, but touch wood it all works now, so that is a repair then?

  15. It is. The standard bracket hangs down from the tube.

  16. But that does the same if you turn the van the right way up. Nice following of the tube radius too... :D

This is pukka. See how far the metal conduit extends past the beam and compare to yours. I think you were having trouble tightening the cable enough?

Yours looks shorter and it will mean you need a shorter cable or tighten the wing nut more or stick a pile of washers in somewhere...

  18. That was/is the fix, an inch of washers at the top of the tube, oh well, seems to work just now, suppose I could extend the tube a bit to compensate but lets see how it goes...thanks for the interest. By the way, the plate with the two u bolts is fixed to the swinging arm bracket so is quite rigid..

Hopefully we're helping you to work with what you have rather than slag it off. If it's solid and washerable, fit and forget. :)
