Company value is my plan - it's a bit of an 'all eggs in one basket' kind of plan so we have been tucking away pension money too. Annuities and interest rates make it a bit of a scary scenario though :)

I reckon I'll have sold up before I'm 60 though.

All my pensions are to do with African Gold...

  3. Its a difficult one. With so many fors and againsts and an issue which many people myself included don't have any real idea what to do about it an are at the mercy of the advice dished out from various sources.

At work we had our individual company pension plan reviews a few weeks ago now, nearly everybody came out of their private meetings with the financial consultant grumbling about having to increase their payments! However it still appears to be sold as an efficient way of saving a pot up with the company % contribution and the tax relief on the personal payments. But what I don't like is the money saved into the pot is tied up and extremely limited with what can be done with it. Apparently the annuities aren't looking so good for the future due to longer life expectancies.

I was speaking to someone socially a short while back who worked in dealing with annuities, he was telling me that the whole pension scheme and annuities system is antiquated and based on a time when people were lucky to see an age into their mid 70's. He believed that property investment was a better bet and that the return per £100k invested in property were (at that time) returning higher annual rental returns than could be achieved in an annuity per £100k invested. In addition with property investment you obviously also recoup the property value should you end up selling the property.

  4. Think of all the left-over drugs you'll have access to :). Amphetamine and Viagra cocktails till you peg out. Waheeeey :)!

  9. Pensions suck, after being bent over by the government and "seen to" mine is looking ropey. In hindsight I think I should have never bothered with one, rented my house out and lived in my van :)
