no panelwork today as I've run out of 1mm cutting discs and I've got no money to buy more til I get paid so filling and sanding was the order of the day.
Got a dilemma with the rear arch.....the existing one is basically alright apart from the bit I cut off so do I use the whole repair panel, or just the bit to replace the missing part?

  3. aiming for mid October. Still have to do the electrics for the LED lighting etc and I need to buy the panels, relays and whatnot, then work out the best way to wire it all up lol
course, cant even make a start on that til the corners are finished and rustproofed an the front panel is rubbed down and painted blue so a month gives me time to get on top of it :)

  4. Leave as much OG panel as you can, just piece in the bit that's rotted out

  5. Yeah I was leaning towards that....figure there'll be a lot less prep work afterwards that way. Its only the bottom front section that I cut out to do the sills that needs replacing, but I might use the arch flare section downwards, since there's a bit of corrosion in the arch lip.....might as well, since I have a complete arch to play with lol

  6. Good old Screwfix.....5 1mm slit discs for under a fiver :) they're Erbauer, which I think may be German for 'last 5 minutes' but I only need to cut the front and back nearside arches out so should be ample for that.
Set of wide 5 steels I picked up cheap on EB should be here Monday so I can swap out my buckled one and get the bus mobile again...no more dragging one wheel along the floor like a dog with ass worms lol just need to sort out a caliper, @Top Banana Racing is that one you have still on offer?

  7. today, engine lid 99% done.....thought it was 100% but once I cleaned it, gave it a lick of undercoat and mounted it I realised the profile is a little off on one side.....curses!
I welded up some holes I found behind the number plate too and gave it a skim. Finished one rear corner.....really pleased with it....damn near perfect and this was the worse of the two....the one I made a mess of letting the light panel into! Lol so, full of win, i trial fitted the lights....pleased to report it looks grand :)
Also sorted out the front grill recess to make good on the gap around the grill that was a bit off.....now bang on.
Back to work tomorrow, so it'll be afternoons only from now on :(

  10. Anytime you like really as long as I know.

  11. cool, I'll try and get over one afternoon this week if that's ok?

  12. Just got to work...first day back and I feel like shooting myself in the head lol
surprising the difference a couple of weeks away, doing something I enjoy makes to my perspective. Gonna have a chat with a fellow VW nut friend later about a business proposal I think

  13. No worries.
I can lave it accessible if I'm not around.

  14. Some nice work going on and working in the same conditions as me - great ain't it.........not:)

  15. hahaha yeah working on a drive sucks! The irony is that I have a big industrial unit, with light, heat etc.....but its got another half finished project in bits in it lol

  16. lovely....if you pm me your address i'll get something sorted out :)

  17. Had a day off from the retrofication process today, but the steelies arrived this afternoon :) nice patina on them and I'm half tempted to run them as is.....think they'll work well with the look I'm aiming for. Need some new boots on them though....more expense, but it wont roll far without lol
Aiming to get back on it tomorrow, weather permitting

  18. I like the engine lid
It's one of those details most people won't notice but changes the look enough to make people wonder what's different

Luis Navarro and Lardy like this.
  19. was a retarded amount of work really for such a small change but it should have the early bus crowd guessing lol
