WANTED Parts for changing Exhaust/HE set up

Discussion in 'Late Bay Parts Classifieds' started by PeaSoup, Sep 19, 2013.

  1. I'm planning on converting my type4 2 litre FI engine from the later/complex exhaust/HE set up (75-78) to the simpler earlier set up (72-74) and in order to do this I am looking for the following parts. These are all be for the earlier 72-74 style heat exchangers/exhaust - ones with trapezoid shape connection to exhaust with four bolts (not the triangular 3 bolt ones). Pictures below all "borrowed" from germansupply.com!

    - Right HE support bracket which also doubles as the alternator support/adjustment bracket.

    - Bottom tinware for both sides for between heat exchanger's and engine sump (I know Paul Weeding makes GRP versions of these, but would ideally like metal original ones)

    - Right connection pipe from HE to flexi-tube from electric heating fan

    - Left and right pushrod cover tins (not 100% sure I need these, however germansupply.com suggests they are needed when doing this setup change - http://www.germansupply.com/home/customer/product.php?productid=16683)

Also looking for the following, but I know I can get these easily new if I can't find good condition second hand ones:

    - Type 4 Exhaust with the trapeziod (4 bolt) connections

    - Left heater control flap box

If anyone has any of these parts, please could they let me know prices including postage to Oxford.

    Thanks.

    Nick...

  2. Good luck getting the tins

The two pieces that go round cylinders 1&3 (last 2 pics) are bay/T25 only... and usually the 2 pieces that are taken off and binned/lost with the bottom tins!!

  3. I don't hold out much hope Paul - but figured I'd ask! You'll probably soon be getting an order from me for some GRP ones! (Are you still wanting some US spec ones to make moulds from? You can borrow mine when I take them off if you are)

The two bits of tin for round the cylinders, are they different for the earlier and later style heat exchanger set up? i've seen a couple of lists of bits I need to change for doing the change between HE styles and those bits were only mentioned on one.

    Thanks.

I have a good exhaust [Ernst] if that helps ?i also have a complete mint type 4 engine sat on my work bench at work that has everything connected so you can take pictures etc if you like ? that way you know what you are looking for ? i am in Henley -on -Thames,Oxfordshire so not a milion miles from you .

  5. The 1&3 pieces come in 5 different versions (I think) depending on uk bay, us FI bay, aussie FI bay, 914, and 411/412  so getting the right ones is quite hard!!

I'm gonna chat up a mate of mine, and see if I can borrow his off his Aussie FI bay, as they are the same as uk bay, but come without the square hole for the hot air pick-up!!

I'll more than likely take you up on the off of borrowing the US spec under tins... as you do get the odd person looking for them

  6. Is their much call for GRP bits? (I know! I have to wash my mouth out with soap!)

  7. Thanks Milky - do you have a picture of the exhaust you could post and also how much would you like for it? Thanks also for the offer of me being able to take some pictures of your engine - if I get stuck figuring out where all the bits go I may way take you up on the offer. Don't suppose you are selling the complete "mint" type 4 engine?? Am on the look out for a replacement one!

  8. Thanks Paul - even more confusing then than I thought as I guessed there would only be two different types of those tins!

Sorry but engine is not for sale ! it a NOS industrial one that has sat all shrink wrapped on my bench for last 5 ish years ready to put back in my bus once/if i ever i get it finished . I can get pics of exhaust and price would be say £20 but its heavy and i am not that keen to wrap it up and post ! would rather it was collected .

  10. Milky - The exhaust sounds good - if you could get me a picture of it that would be great. Henley isn't that far at all so am sure I could find an excuse to tell my wife for coming in that direction to pick it up. Thanks.

No Probs will get some pictures ! you could always drop the wife in town with a fiver and she may be able to get a coffee for that ! town and river are pretty but saturated with coffee shops and middle class blow-ins .

  12. Well I've had one guy pestering me for a full set of tins in GRP... It might end up helping those who get into type 4s, but only purchase a long block with no tins!! I've seen quite a few of those for sale!! But obviously to make a set of moulds, I need original tins, and therein lies the problem

And it's not just limited to those tins either... vw did a few subtle differences, depending on the vehicle it was installed to, or the exhaust the engine was running o_O

  13. Someone must have a spare right HE/alternator bracket or right HE to snail fan connection pipe????

  14. I found this ;)

  15. Thanks Dave - did you decide how much you wanted for it?

Afraid I'm still not convinced whether it's the right one or not - the hole at the end looks to be on the wrong side compared to the picture of the one that I think is correct. Perhaps Paul or someone might be able to confirm either way for me?

    Thanks.

  16. That might be one off a T25... I'll have a look later tomorrow...

This is another of those variances I was talking about

  17. I may have one. I'll get a pic for you tomorrow.

  18. Just found this pic on my phone.

  19. looks right to me :)

  20. Damn. That means I'll have to find it in my crap hole of a shed now. :D
If you want it @PeaSoup it's yours, once I find it.
