Cheers paul I had help from mr muscle a tooth brush and mr meguires Oh and a can of satin black paint for the blanking plate
Looking really nice Para. I like the decal you have for the heater knobs, any chance of a close up photo so I can make one for mine?
Of course dude ill try and take a good macro picture for you It will have to wait untill i can use some decent daylight tmw though
I thought i would try my fuel filler ring in the ultrasonic cleaner today to see how well it would come up It started off like this I flaked the overspray off it with a flat bladed screwdriver Then chucked it in the ultrasonic cleaner with some warm water and a blob of washing up liquid for a few blasts It came up better but not as good as i was hoping for Getting all these little bits replated is going to cost a bit so ill propably end up etch priming them and giving them a coat of satin black to tidy them up
A bit pricey but you could try home plating like this could work out cheaper than new bits http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-electroplating.html?cat=158
Ouch too expensive for me matty but interesting all the same Looks like etch and satin black to freshen them up is the way forward for me
what about getting them powder coated? i got the same fuel filler thing powdercoated silver, i think after your etched them, primed and painted, possible laquer, the costs the same. all the door striker plates, fuel bit, ash tray.. pictures are in my resto thread somewhere if you wanna see. plus powdercoat is tougher, just a thought.
Even powdercoat is too expensive for me carl A good rub over with some scotchbrite a rattle can of etch and a can of spray enamel satin black will do a fair few little bits and is in my price range It will smarten them up good enough and is easy enough to strip off at a later date if i decide to get them plated or coated Cheers for the suggestion though dude
Ill have a look into it at a later date matty im trying to not have too many mini side projects at the moment
no worries chap. with your attention to detail i'm sure its going to turn out better than mine anyway hahahaha. have you got a date in mind for completing it by the way?
Its not about whos is better dude Its about doing the best you can do with what you have and enjoying making the bus your own The thing that i really like about the dub scene is the individuality and personality people put into there vehicles Im hoping to have it back from pauls and re fitted and back on the road this summer After that its going to get used and used properly Im not going to obsess about keeping it pristine i just want it as best as i can get it at the start then enjoy using it to build memories
Ive got some more parts of the fan assembly and the fuel filler pipe inspection hole cover in paint today
Ive cleaned up the fuel filler ring with a rotary wire brush on the dremmel, etched primed and painted it with satin black enamel Its turned out well and you can still see the original stamping for the mimimum octane rating which is nice
