sort of understand 'cos i'm in the process of moving at the moment but i knew if i sold mine i'd never be able to have another so i just remortgaged for a bit more.
But it is not yours ,you and the landlord are the same ,he just has the deposit and courage to buy a house ,you are paying his mortgage and doing his house up... Sell the bus and buy your own gaff...
My old dad said to me once never borrow what you can't afford buy in the first place. Not a dig but sound advice which I wished I taken more notice of. Good luck but telling wifey you'll sell the van for 9K is a good move, it'll never sell at that price but she'll appreciate it and think it'll be sold so that's a win win in my book. You need to look at what gov't incentives (help to buy etc. ) you can use to buy a house.
Ray dude, that's patronising. If for example I myself wanted to buy a house from scratch right now I'd be able to borrow approx £25K. Houses here cost 10x that and I certainly could NOT buy one with or without any help-to-buy scheme.
It was certainly not meant to be patronising and for that I apologies. But there are schemes that allow you to buy a % of your house, no matter how little - or even people with small deposits, 40 year mortgages etc. Steve, I see you as one of the lucky ones, you bought when you could buy a house for 25K. I doubt even my kids will have much luck buying when they are older.
Hate to say it, but I agree with birdy. Sounds like it's become a bit of a burden. And family first and all that. But realistically I would prepare yourself for a loss, a left hooker with no interior, engine or headlining. Then although the quality of the job is high.. It's built in a pretty niche style. Most people are after a bright 70's colour to please their kids on the weekends away. I think your best bet would be to put it back together as much as you can, with the parts you have, I.e. Stick the engine back in even if it don't work. Plus the interior. Then try to flog it as an easy project to someone suited, I.e. Military personnel. All the best though, tough situation.
he could sell his bus ,max all his credit cards and buy in France 100%... and spend the rest of his life doing it up....
Its amazing how much a house move shakes up your life and money I bought the camper so we could escape the stress of forces life once in a while Move on many years and stress and house moves later Im actually living in the sort of place we would have used the van to visit Normal ife would be better deserving of money for a few years instead of the van
With 2.5 grand to buy your first bus your going to end up with somthing that needs 10 grands worth of welding and paint Maybe a decade of your life if you decide to take on the resto yourself
We couldent afford to rent this cottage So i managed to cut a deal with the landlord that if we fitted carpet and decorated through out Then he would drop the monthly rent That way we actually got to make the house our own home Since ive left the forces in 2006 life has been constantly one bad thing after another and a massive struggle Living here the whole family is happy and life is how we only dreamt it could be The paravan doesent seem as important to happyness anymore
Thats a bit hard to follow when you have been cooking on a two burner camp stove for three weeks Its also counter productive when the car your driving costs £15 a day on fuel Im thankfull of everyones concerns and advice and its nice to see the banter is still alive on tlb
Yes Im going to paint up the last few bits and finish of undersealing the bus Then it will be going on piston heads, samba ebay etc once done
