just searching the memberlist - over 40 pages of lurkers, does this site preen users? there's loads of pages of one post wonders as well, just interested in stat's - how many regular posters are there on here? percentage over members must be small.
i look at these stats a lot too .... i think a lot of them are just random spam things which never really have fully active accounts ? maybe
Lots of comments recently about how quiet the forum is and now this thread about how many people don't post regularly. All this silly name changing nonsense is not going to help at all. I come on fairly regularly but TLB is not my whole life so it takes a while to start to recognise the names and who the people are behind the names. Sometimes it takes me weeks to realise that someone is female, or a lorry driver, or ex RAF, or Australian etc. In my opinion the name changing is making the website LESS accessible to new and occasional visitors because they cannot work out who is who. Eventually they stop bothering to try.
I think many forums will be the same. Most one post wonders maybe classified adds or just someone with a question then they move on. Theres still a good hardcore following. Althogh a clean up of people who have not posted for 12 months is a good idea. With regards to name changing i dont find it an issue, its just a giggle, but i respect that it may confuse a newbe but to be honest think that unlikely. The silly aspect of TLB is what i like
Does it matter that there are loads of members that don't post? They might just enjoy reading the stuff posted.
i do agree the name change thing appears cliquey and may put the odd person off, but on the whole there is a 3 tier system of posters on here in my opinion, premier league who are on most days so they get it, championship who see it and don't let it bother them as long as their question is answered, and division one who may think wtf? but if are into vans enough to stick around a bit may get the picture, i agree the one post wonders could have been on for one question or sale and then left, i've done it myself on forums, but i've never seen the point of lurking and not posting, if you don't post after a year or whatever then being deleted should be expected.
