Just took my bus for a status report and then to hopefully fiddle with a load of improvements thereafter. Turns out it wasn’t very good news at all, and my option are thus: 1. Spend quite a lot to get up to scratch and fix some pretty hefty issues. 2. Sell whilst I can and re invest in a new t2, or maybe t25 in a better starting condition. What would everyone do? Feeling pretty blue right now.
LOTS of small jobs - the list is so long to mention. Gearbox rebuild, new brakes, steering drift. Engine needs coming out and fix quite a few oil leaks. Quite a few welding jobs for rot. There’s obviously a “need to do” and a “project to do” list. But the list is big and maybe the best course of action is selling and re investing in a more secure bus. Though if I sell I will be honest about what needs doing, and not sure where that leaves me with how much it’s worth. I was told between 7-10k, maybe the higher end.
Not at the mo because I’ve had to leave it there and have it brought back on a truck when I get it back I can take some.
Sounds like the usual stuff. What's the matter with the engine? Why does the gearbox need a "rebuild"?
It may not be as disastrous as it seems at the moment. The people who inspected it will have gone for the full monty, partly to cover themselves or maybe through ignorance. Gearbox could just be the shift coupler, oil leaks - well, I have one or two. Steering and brakes are just wear and tear and quite doable on the driveway. Don't give up!
It’s a RHD bus, very very very few of these don’t need welding every so often. If your options include buying another, how much extra are you willing to invest?
Mine had a lot of work done on it when I got in in 2006. But not much of the running gear and mechanics. I’m catching up slowly, but maybe you won’t have as many distractions, so get the work done quicker. Loads of people on here will help you glue tab A to tab B, But like @matty says, unless you plan to roll up your sleeves, sell it on, quick. Good luck, if you decide to keep it.
Buy mine off me buddy ...i will drop £ 500 off being as you are a TLB'r ...look in the for sale section .
Yep, find a bunch of stuff the owner can't or won't want to do themselves. Finding problems is easy no matter how good the bus seems, they're 50 years old!
