  1. so i have this above...

checked all pipes i can see and feel apart from a failing fuel sender cant see any probs all seems bone dry.
could it be the carbs running rich. i get the smell when driving through the air vent.

could it be a failing fuel pump ?
should i just take the engine out replace the lot and put it back in....

    thanks!!!

  2. how long is it since you changed them......
if you cant remember it would be engine out and replace them all including filler pipe.

  5. I have the same issue.

I noticed a crack on the rubber hose that connects fuel filler neck to the body work.

Not sure if my fix has worked yet. But I kinda thought that the petrol could be splashing into the air intake and then into the cab.

  6. I have not smelt real old fashioned petrol in many a year, what you are sold these days, is just a horrible chemical mix.

Open your fuel filler jam your finger in and see if you can feel any cracks, check your breather system especially behind the wheel well

  8. I gave just redone all mine, probably the same 4 years but the engine was out so thought might aswell while im in here....I didnt have any smells and when removed looked fine. The new short fuel filler was a complete swine to get on,saw one available recenrly from scofields which seamed more flexible...

  9. not sure if she'd like that!

Might be worth checking your oil level too, and sniff your dippy stick when its out just to check. I`d also pull a pipe off here and there and chop an inch off if you can, then disect it and look from the inside. They don`t stink of fuel unless there is an issue. When you last did your pipes , did you change the ones on the vent system too ?

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,If you can smell it, then don`t drive it. ;)

  11. I see people have replaced it with the engine in, I did it with no engine and it was a swine !

  12. I have a 1600 type1 engine so engine out. People with type4 1700 and above dont have the big fan housing in the way so can manage without the need to remove engine bit I guess its still a pain to do

  13. I was sat in place of the engine (type 4) it was still painful :)

  14. didn't take the engine out to change all my pipes 1600 tp

  15. I've restored many cars. But these buses have the worst fuel line design I've ever seen. And the quality of rubber was not meant to last more than 20 years. If you're not sure of every piece of rubber in the fuel circuit. You're asking for big problems. .

  16. How did you do the ones on the top of the tank with the engine in?

  17. leaned over the engine was a fun job but didn't have to take the engine out just to change the tank breather pipes or the filler pipe

  18. Interesting, I didn't think you could get the firewall out with the engine in place.

  19. There you go

  20. How do you do it without damaging the firewall?
