Oil pump. Interesting marks

  1. Took an oil pump apart today before I threw it away. It looks like it's been seized at some point. Opinions please

  2. That's normal wear... You have to remember that the oil isn't filtered at this point, so any crud that gets into the sump will be drawn through the pump then collected by the filter

  3. The shape of the gear etched into it is normal? It looks like something acidic has done it. Similar to the fubarred bearing shell[IMG]

The engine sat for a while. The pump got stained.

The fubar'd bearing is half melted. The white metal has gone leaving the backing. A few miles from disaster...

  5. ^^This^^

Old/used engine oil goes acidic when it's left for a long period, and that will be staining/etching
