    Clean the filler area as to not put carp in the box, don't clean the rest as it will leak even more running over shiny aluminium ...that's of coarse if you are not wanting to repair the box .

    That rubber coupler is in a poor state with cracks and splits. If it fails you will have no steering. It happened to me. Easy to fit a new one.
