I just thought I would post a quick comment on the common misconception that repro heat exchanger aren't worth installing. I recently overhauled the complete heating system on my bus. I though I had two OG heat exchangers but upon closer inspection it turned out that they where repro ones. Not deterred by this I fitted them anyway ad I was surprised as to how hot my heating gets. I measured it with a thermometer earlier and got a staggering 40*C. Now i'm not saying that they are on par will the OG ones but it goes to show that if your heating system is fully sealed and functioning properly that the cheaper repro units are still a viable option.
There is definitely a big difference between the two, I have just installed og hxs in mine and they are hot. My repro ones were warm. No change in the other workings either.
I certainly hope so, I'm getting a scrummy pair of og ones from @Paul Weeding so we can be all toasty in the van. edit: that's WE as in me and Jan, not WE as in me and Paul.
I will over time replace the repros for OG ones but mine are HOT rather than warm. I wonder if there are different 'quality' repro ones?
Ive got repro's on Gusbus at the moment, just got to finish off the tube connection under the front beam & I'll report back on how effective Ive found them!
A friend of mine went through his heating system a while back, and he was getting like 80°c at the dash vents OG HXs BTW
Mebbe there are different repros. Mine from JK just gave me luke warm. Set of originals gives air so hot, I can't hold my hand over the dash vents...
He did go to town on it though!! Re-lagged all of the pipe work, taped any joints that were leaking with that aluminium duct tape, and he used exhaust wrap on his HXs
If you want to be hot, thrash your bus because the more you do, the hotter you will be whatever the heat exchangers.
I was thinking that maybe exhaust wrap would help seal the leaks on the HX's. Mine are rather frayed around where the exhaust goes in and out so half the air from the fan never makes it to the front. I've tried a variety of things like Gun Gum but it always drops off. Paul's suggestion is worth a go I think, but there's a variety of types out there. That titanium stuff looks good Vanorak but how much will I need?
If you've got "gaps", then you can use aluminium tape to seal them off... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/45m-x-48m...Scrapbooking_Glue_Tape_EH&hash=item19dac749a0 Ideal if you're wrapping too
