IIRC it's a thick black and red one.

It come from terminal 50 on the back of the ignition plug / switch.

Just replaced this on my crew cab only a few weeks ago.

I've had same problem as you . Fitted a hard start relay and it cured the issue on the driveway but first ride out after a short break it wouldn't start . Had exactly same symptoms as your first post .

I have ordered all new earthing cables and battery cables should be here today .
I've not changed the ignition barrel though . I do have a new one but I will change the cables first and report back

  3. Hooked it up to the thick black and red one. When I press the button the fuel pump comes on. So I guess that's the wrong one.found a diagram and it says that should be the right one. Or maybe ?!? it's just the starter spinning over without engaging ,,,I'll have to go look again.

..update,so I pulled ignition switch and hook up the big red wire to the red and black striped wire on the starter spins ,strange ,ill take another look.

    Update #2
OK so this is what I did .I hooked up the red and black wire to power. And the fuel pump came on. But when I hook up the red and black wire to the big red ignition switch wire the starter motor spins.

  5. On later bays you can reach into the steering cowling and pull the multiplug of the back of the ignition switch
Then stick a new switch onto the plug and use a flat bladed screwdriver handle of a spoon etc to start it
I did this on my van just to get to a camping weekend and used it like that for months on end
Don't forget you will still need the key in the ignition for the steering lock

    Sounds right.

The red and black wire should go to the starter motor from the ignition switch.

The thick red wire on the dash mounted light switch is the main power feed to the ignition switch (via the fuse box)

When you turn the key - these two wires should be joined and spin the starter over.

I think you have now looped out the ignition key into a push button.

If it all works I think you have isolated the fault to the ignition switch.

This can all be replaced with new parts (which is what I did) if you want to go back to stock.

    Fingers crossed for you.
