My local garage is going to print off the settings for the timing chain for me, and he'll be on the end of the phone in an emergency. He's also said I can borrow his torque wrenches etc.
i wrote that before you said you used to build jet engines for a living. So i'm assuming you are qualified for this little toyota dismantling adventure.
Ha Ha. The dismantling is not going to be a problem. It's the manteling afterwards that might get a bit messy.
No-one around to give you a hand/take the ******* ?? Alus easier with two heads being scratched If you were closer i`d help but that doesn`t help really does it ?? Only suggestion i would offer would be to take pictures as you go along - it ain`t rocket science but the timing HAS to be spot on or the engine will be toast first time you spin it over - by hand initially to ensure it doesn`t lock ..... When the head is off it`s not just a case of whacking on a new gasket, the head MUST be checked for warping - it`s pointless rebuilding it and finding the head is leaking again 20 miles down the road... Bon chance mon ami ......
The main thing you want to know is head bolt torque and stretch procedures!! Everything else is straight forward!!
