My local garage is going to print off the settings for the timing chain for me, and he'll be on the end of the phone in an emergency. He's also said I can borrow his torque wrenches etc.

  2. i wrote that before you said you used to build jet engines for a living. So i'm assuming you are qualified for this little toyota dismantling adventure.

Ha Ha. The dismantling is not going to be a problem. It's the manteling afterwards that might get a bit messy.

  4. No-one around to give you a hand/take the ******* ?? Alus easier with two heads being scratched
If you were closer i`d help but that doesn`t help really does it ??
Only suggestion i would offer would be to take pictures as you go along - it ain`t rocket science but the timing HAS to be spot on or the engine will be toast first time you spin it over - by hand initially to ensure it doesn`t lock .....
When the head is off it`s not just a case of whacking on a new gasket, the head MUST be checked for warping - it`s pointless rebuilding it and finding the head is leaking again 20 miles down the road...

Bon chance mon ami ...... :hattip:

  5. The main thing you want to know is head bolt torque and stretch procedures!! Everything else is straight forward!! :)
