Hi all - does anyone know where i might be able to get the non return flaps for my type 4 fan shroud?.......I'm presuming they're probably needed... Cheers jason
You could try to make some, they are only light weight tin or ally, mostly flat with a couple of hinge loops on top.

Oops I thought he was after the little ones at the heat X end, you won't be making them ^ in the bench vice.
These are the ones coming out of the fan shroud into the heat exchangers??? If so, are they needed???(cos mine are invisible), I presume these stop the heat rising back up into the fan housing when the engine stops.
If its those little rectangle bits covering a bit of shroud and heat exchanger then heritage sell them...
Thanks All - they are the little ones at the bottom of the fan shroud...just had look on vwh but couldn't see them on the website? I'll give them a call Cheers jason
Made some yonks ago and fitted em. Took em out as eventually they just stick open anyway. Probably not worth fretting over, and if you dont have an auxiliary fan then they are of no use whatsoever.
vwh sell them, i have non as i took the aux fan off, not needed if risers are blocked, they just stop heat bleeding back into the engine bay via the fan
Vwh sell the screw on covers but not the flaps They look like this: http://www.germansupply.com/home/customer/product.php?productid=17440&cat=&page=1 I have ordered stuff from German supply before but as they are in Canada postage is a bit pricey!!
There are some on the auxiliary fan which are plastic but these are on either side of the cooling fan housing, they drop closed (I assume) when the engine stops, only purpose I can see is to stop residual heat coming back into the cooling fan casing, I cant see if you have the auxiliary fan or not has any bearing on these...
From what I remember, they are closed by the air pressure from the auxiliary fan when the engine is at idle...
