Id rather lose 5 bhp than have the inbalance
Stateside replace the guides on new AMC heads from new as they are pants
Old heads, standard off an AP code, 70hp with dell 40's, stock exhaust.
Bigger valve heads, no other changes 85hp. Same mechanics same rolling road. The VS exhaust and a mess with the jetting, as it was bogging in 3rd mid range, added a further 20hp. Forget the torque number but it can take the fight to the skin on custard
I think Jim replaces the seats too..
I know he generally uses them for new big valve heads... So new guides and seats and ports them out!!
WO 1700 85bhp as standard
That's a 411/914 engine though...
Engine out this morning, 30 mins, easy peasy.
over to the builders garage where they are machining the new head to put bigger valves in.
back to me on friday.
n plug holes , good work bob . hope they do a good job for you .
Just read this thread through & shared the up and down emotions with you @sANDYbAY so glad its getting sorted, I think you approached this in a very good way by putting it to TLB for help & suggestions without going bonkers about your engine builder enabling you to return to them with the correct info required to highlight their foobars so they can do the right thing by sorting it all for you
As it has been said earlier in the thread you are a true gent indeed
Hope all goes well!! no pain no gain eh!
well done bob call you weekend you will be all singing and dancing now
Excellent news dude
When on Friday? Do we know?
I've told them that My engine must take priority over all the other work and the valves and seats are due in Thursday am. I'll be phoning them at 12 to make sure we're on track for you to pick it up first thing Friday.
I want to be driving it Friday evening.
By the way, it's not just four bolts on a campervan engine I found loads more than that
8 bolts then...
rubbish you know nowt!
Here is the 6 o'clock news.
The noisy offensive engine has been removed from the noisy cupboard and sent away for hypnosis and shock therapy.
The doctors are pleased with the patient's progress and have agreed to release the engine back into the wild.
After being successfully coaxed into the noisy cupboard with promises of petrol, the cupboard door was slammed shut and the beast was trapped.
Using the ignition key I poked at the beast until it woke I was delighted to discover that it was in fact just a gently purring pussycat.
But wait! Pressing one of the floor pedals instantly turned the pussycat into a roaring lion which with the addition of gears and another floor pedal chased its prey down the street.
After running down an Impala and several small children I removed my foot from one of the pedals and instantly the lion reverted to its former guise of contentedly purring pussycat.
To say I'm pleased is somewhat of an understatement.
Just need to sort out the handbrake conduit I crushed when I jacked it up.
Well done mate.
Thank F for that! Chuffed for you mate.
