No new Petrol or Diesel cars after 2035

  1. One question ?

How are they going to replace the money lost on fuel revenue ?

They cant just put it on electricity as the poor little old lady with no car will won't afford her heating ?

  2. It will suddenly be £500 a year to tax every vehicle

  4. Have they given any thought to where this vast amount of electricity's going to come from? I suspect not.

off Peak leccy apparently timed to charge during off peak hours and they are even capable off drawing it back from your car to help boost the grid when it’s plugged in overnight

  12. I live in a terraced house, with no drive, and other people in the row, or living over the road, have 2 or 3 vehicles. So if I don’t get home by 3pm, I’m unlikely to be able to park outside my house, or indeed outside the whole row of terraces. Has any thought been given to where I can charge my car? Didn’t think so

  13. I suspect there won't be. Can extract it from seawater, but that likely involves vast amounts of electricity.

Lithium mining areas will become as rich as the oil fields if they find enough of it.

  16. What will the life expectancy be of the electric car ? Be more pollution building and scrapping than what our old gas guzzlers create

I’m just imagining you lot debating the steam train back in the dawn of the steam age. It’s too fast and there isn’t enough coal in the world...

The trouble is that it’s all down to headlines these days, not joined up thinking.

  19. 15 years isn't a longtime ... anyway its only new cars we can keep driving our T2 Bays well past that ... as long as there are still petrol stations.

This my brother has been working on this.

Personally the investment along with the infrastructure upgrades needed will mean that it’s not going to happen, they will argue what to do for 10years then change their mind.

I like electric cars but don't pretend that it's the answer. They would be better off improving public transport and getting us to give up our fixation with owning cars.
