i picked up this old stock split charge relay last year and have been reluctant to fit it because of a lack of knowledge really , but i do like the originality of old parts and the company i got it from have a good name in old spares supply and have ensured me it is genuine old stock never been fitted etc so i am keen to give it a go . These are the bit's i have cobbled together plus i have a new earth strap courtesy of Rick . i caused the brown patch on the bottom corner by leaving it against a damp box . lucas part 3335 , relay . The tags have been labeled up and connected by me for reference , they say ignition light feed , earth , main battery and leisure battery . questions -- Where does the ignition light feed pick up , is it the regulater ? where does the main battery pick up ? where best to earth it ? Will the 27 amp red cable be strong enough to do the + side of things ? cheers in advance , Malc
I connected the pick up to the light blue wire coming from the box on the right of the firewall - this feeds from the alternator and to the dash warning light. I fitted my relay next to the battery on the earth strap mount and used this as earth for the relay also. Your cable would be fine for the trigger but not enough to carry charge to the L.B - I would use 40amp or similar for that....
cheers for that , i was concerned about the cable tbh but Halfords said it would be fine - raises eyes to ceiling !
No German van filled with fine kit from Bosch and Hella should have anything made by Joe Lucas in it, PT
sound about right, we went to green boxes for the 90's red was electrical blue fuel (cav) yellow braking (girling) but it was daft all the boxes we used
I stocked up on 30 amp relays from the Halfords bargain bucket section. A quid a piece. Think I got a 30, a 40 and two fused 30s (£4 all together)
i was serious too, lunch from 1 to 1.45 12 minutes each way to pub gave us 21 mins to get 3 pints and a chaser in, the afternoons got a bit squiffy
