  1. I'm going to fit a new distributor with electronic ignition and vacuum advance (accuspark), what should i time it at ?

  2. 7.5°BTDC same as per a std dizzy

  3. Hi Paul,

Just fitted my Accuspark vac dizzy & was going to ask you a couple of questions along the same lines...

    (1) Do timing with engine hot or doesn't it matter
    (2) vac pipe on or off - done mine with the pipe off as per the manual and then when I reconnect the pipe the timing increases to about 15 DBTDC (at tickover) and the tickover speed increases - is this fine/normal.

    Cheers matey

  4. Engine hot or cold, doesn't matter. Time it with vac pipe off and connection to carb plugged so you don't upset the mixture.

Reconnecting may add a bit of advance at idle, but I'd check whether your vac unit is ok (suck on pipe - shouldn't get any flow of air).

  5. thanks -when u say suck on pipe, do you mean connect the pipe to the vac advance unit on the dizzy then take the pipe off at the carb end and suck on this, i.e u are sucking the vac advance unit?

Does an extra 7.5 deg of advance at idle sound like a lot?

  7. You shouldn't be getting extra advance when you reconnect the pipe to the carb... likely as not the throttle stop on the carb isn't set properly...

not uncommon though... I reset a carb recently where idle had been set on the throttle stop, and not on the idle circuit....

  8. probably right - fitted the carbs myself and they havenlt been set up properly as yet - will set the timing to 7.5 with vac pipe off then, put the pipe back on and then get the carbs set up properly.
