My grinder has died

  1. After 7 years of loyal service, my trusty Bosch grinder has died!!

Proper gutted!! Thought she was gonna last forever!!

Only changed the cable and plug a few months ago!!

  2. 7 years is pretty good though ( i also have a trusty Bosch grinder!)

I think on on eof the resto threads that someone had brought several cheaper ones and they only lasted a few weeks. Certainly I just bought a Clarke Biscuit Jointer and the on/off switch quality is somewhat suspect and its is essentially a grinder. The rest is ok though.

    Sorry for you loss!

    Cheers
    Ben

  5. I hope your going to give it a proper send off, I slow drive past its final resting place of all the campers it has helped to restore over the years!

  6. Spares are available for bosch grinders dude

The lead went on mine last year so i cut it shorter and refitted it
i really should get a new guard for it as mines loose and hits the disc once in a while

  8. I got cheap onces before and they lasted 2 days , not good at all so brought a makita one and so far it's holding up well

  9. I've used a few cheap ones... best (or worst if you like) was an hours worth of use before the armature burnt out

If it goes a bit when you shake it (or did) it's the brushes - trust me I've got a box of cheap broken grinders. Usually come with a spare set, but when they're gone it's almost the price of a grinder and always have to order when what you need is a grinder NOW.
Bosch ones are the best though.

7 years? I've been through 2 bosch and half a dozen cheapy's in the last 4 years. Lightweight.

  12. i has a bq cheapone £26 lasted 5 years it took some abuse , paid £85 for my current one broke 2 times in 1 year , just got it back again under warranty , so i went to bq again and its going a bomb owen nw

Sounds like you don't do so much grinding. ;)

Tempting to hot-wire the switch, but it's not good to have a grinder you can only stop by unplugging.

My kettle's hot-wired s o it won't switch off. I've left it on overnight several times with no ill effect. So was my last hot air gun. But not a grinder.

  17. I won't even use a grinder without the guard on it... let along hot wire one

And yet I won't use a grinder with a guard on it. Dangerous those guards...

Ask me - I've got loads - all unused...

I think iot's time for a picture. :) My finger got sucked in between the guard and the wheel for half a second. Lucky it was a 2mm disc not a 1mm...

Kruger probably uses a guard now if he didn't before his "incident". And a suit of armour. I'd have given up grinding forever...
