My first Beetle for 20 years, 61 Gulf Blue

  1. Very nice bug may I say. I had one exactly like that, a 61, although it wasn't a classic at that time as it was in 1972! Lost it on a bend on ice and went through a farm gate. It was closed before I hit it! Soon fixed with a spray can from Halfords and a soft hammer! Water used to come in through the windscreen seal and out through a hole in the floor.
I don't know what they cost now but I recall mine cost £150 in 72. :)

  11. thanks mate, having a lot done atm, hopefully once the headliner is sorted we can crack on and get the carpets and rollcage in, seats nd then MOT time

  12. Bit more done on the bug today by stitches, had to cut the rubbers to remove the windows, so ordered deluxe rubbers with chrome trim to go back in, as thats what correct for the deluxe model, and as its still wearing the deluxe side trim anyhow

    Lofty and madpad like this.
  16. I got a big itch for a bug. Me n me mate did a 1973 back in 87. Went for the cal look. Was bright orange of course. I checked it on DVLA and last taxed in 1993 so LNG gone I'm guessing. What's a good ready to roll bug cost nowadays?

  17. a good bug aint a cheap bug anymore thats for sure, esp small windows, this is gonna be a nice old school cal looker when its done i hope

  18. That is very nice....

What size tyres are you running on the sprint stars front and back?
