My Bay won't start! Please read!

  1. Darren, please, listen very carefully!

You must forget the other shower of numpties who fed you a load of bull before......really!

They are fools, idiots, vacuous spunk spittoons of large proportions.

Even if your engine is toast, which is unlikely, nothing is insurmountable without the help of the good guys on here. Stop going through the things they said, over and over, as I feel you are beating yourself up about it.......what, exactly, normally comes out of an exhaust, FFS?

Anyway, I'm going out on a bike ride now, as I've been waiting to find out all morning, and it's not getting any earlier! :0)

  2. Don't sell the guitars - wail until you get a clear picture from the new garage -
You can never replace an old friend like a guitar! Like many have said on this thread, it may just be a simple issue (or many simple ones put together!)
I have tried to read as much as I can and am desperate for a positive ending - my first thought after a few pages was that the distributor had turned slightly as your previous mechanics had put the new leads on....

    Good luck Darren...fingers crossed!

Very wise words. Ill second that

  4. Smoke was probably caused by it being flooded with fuel, dont panic! It sounded ok when cranking,no strange noises and from what i could make out it had even compression.
Lets see what the expert will diagnose...keep us posted.

Be prepared to wait to see what the diagnosis is, not prepared to buy a new engine.

    Good luck

  12. I think this is a good excuse to drive to Scotland for a camping weekend and mechanical repair exercise! We could paint red crosses on the doors (hiding the rust of course)and hold stocks of intravenous drip bags laden with emergency oil and waxoyl to keep the patient alive!

  13. If you need a new engine Darren, think seriously about fitting one from an old Porsche 911.
They are cheap enough, only held in by four bolts and can be up and running in an afternoon.

  14. The posts here on this page have cheered me up! Thanks everyone! It'll be a nail biting moment when the phone rings this afternoon and I get the van's diagnosis, I'll tell you all as soon as I know though. I won't sell any guitars until I have word about what needs done, but considering I've forked out a pile of cash already for the bad mechanics I might need to make a wee sale to fund any repairs, pay day isn't until the end of the month! :)

I have a date that it needs to be back on the road by - the 20th July, the day I leave for a 2 week visit to family in Northern Ireland. Its a 6 hour drive from Dornoch to Cairnryan for the ferry and half an hours drive from the port in Belfast to my relatives house. Fingers crossed it'll be back in tip top shape by then. It just won't feel right doing the journey by car!

  15. I bet you will be driving it today...

  16. Just read Clive's post that he had sold guitar to fund Subaru conversion, was it a signed Jimmy Hendrix original?
