  2. Fed up with spray painting panels now so gonna see if i can get some of the chassis welded up.
Its gonna get a couple of coats of grey oxide, a couple of high build then some stone chip followed by chassis black but atleast it'll be brushed on.

Camper is full of painted panels, the gearbox and all the clean and painted rear suspension parts just waiting to be reinserted back under the shell and the gloss black front beam is just needing a new balljoint in one of the lower torsion arms.

  3. I wouldn't bother with the high build if your going to be coating it in stone chip

  4. I got given a 5l tin of it so might just use in on the topside of the pan then. Does seem a bit pointless under stonechip.

  5. Got a few boxes of silentcoat sound deadening in the post yesterday from my bro in law. Not sure how many sheets i'll need but 20 should do for now.
Been given a pair of scrap doors which will donate a couple of hinges and the passengers side mirror mount and a few more quid has been added to my VW fund too.
I also came home to a christmas card from JK with a 10% discount card in it. :)

Left the fresh air fan at my parents for my dad to have a look at as it only seems to work on one speed.

  6. That looks bloody good that! Love the colour!

  7. Cheers. Your bay looks awesome.
Gotta do mine after i finish this as its getting to the point where it might be only worth scrapping if it doesn't have a lot of time and money spent on it. :(

  8. Been having a problem with this bar (that the relays mount to):

getting in the way of the air vent:

Turns out i had two passenger side ones, a RHD left one and a LHD right hand vent.

    This is what i needed:

Drilled the heads off the hinge rivets on the scrap doors i was given:

    To get these off:

Just need to find the other half of the hinge i have somewhere in my shed of tat.

  10. You knock them out with a hammer and a drift, from the bottom.

  11. There's a special tool you can buy but as has been said a big hammer and a drift does the job just as good.
You can bend the door doing it like that though as I found out on one of my rotten ones.

  12. Made a start on repairing the doors yesterday and managed to gash my palm from thump to little finger in the process. Rather a lot of blood and i woke up with my fist clenched up as it scabbed over in the night.

Took the hinges off the old door, the lower winder mech support off another and the lower hinge reinforcement off a 3rd.
Got to repair a few stress cracks around the hinge mount and replace the bottom of the other one.

Decided to bolt the filler flap on as it was getting in the way on my bench.

Pull cable fitted back on with the colourful rope that was on it when i got it in '96.

Regulator fitted back on under the back seat.

Rebuild speedo fitted up. Wish i'd reset it to zero when it was apart.

  13. It's nice when you start to bolt bits back on

  14. Sure is. Even nicer when you can remember where all the bits you took off 10 years or so ago are stored.

  15. Few more bits added to the dash.

Radio is still nice and shiny. Just a shame its a standard DIN size and the dash hole is smaller. :(
    [IMG]

First time its had a wing in the same colour as the car in over a decade.

Just hung there with a couple of bolts to get it off the floor for the time being.

  16. Been doing a bit of work on the doors cutting out some small sections of rot.
Theres enough solid metal in my scrap pile of doors to cut out donor sections and weld them in.

Decided to soak the granb handles in a jar of bleach as they are all stained yellow.
Gonna give them a week and see if its made any difference.

  18. Will do. Checked i at lunch time today and its just as yellow. Celly thinners will probably eat them or turn them to goo.

Heres some piccies of the rot chopped out of the doors.

Replacement bits chopped from my donor doors.

    Another hole:

    Chopped back to good metal.

  19. Painted the logo back on the wiper switch as it had worn off.

A tidy workspace is the sign of a sick mind, right? :p

  20. Came across another couple of dashboard items so wiped them off and screwed them to the dash. :p
    [IMG]

Radio modified to fit the non DIN sized dash hole.
The aluminium plate behind the faceplate will need a little trimming off it and then it'll get polished.
As the radio doesn't work and is just to fill the dash hole i've wired its lighting to come on when the headlights are switched on.

Couple more crispy bits on the doors cut out and donor bits cut to fit.
