  2. I'm still plugging away at stuff.
Got the new steering box cleaned, and etch primed. :)

I recon it must be a replacement box as its made by TRW and its hardly been adjusted.

Top still needs a bit more cleaning though.

I'm assusing these welds are for aligning the steering box when its fitted?

  3. Welded the steering damper mount back on.

Welded a new captive nut onto the replacement steering stop and welded it onto the beam.

Works as it should with new bolts.

  5. Just been pricing up paint.
Damn it's expensive. Looking at about £280 for 5l primer, topcoat and thinners in cellulose.

  6. Hung the front beam, spring plates and tie rods on the washing line and gave them a coat of bonda primer. Its been so warm today (24 according to the thermometer in the camper:eek:) that the paint was drying on the brush and the tin was skinning over within a couple of minutes even with it in the shade.

  7. Still not recieved my black enamel paint. Yet another item gone missing in the post. 4th item gone in as many weeks.

Not sure whether to repaint it the original L60D Elm Green or go with something else.
Quite tempted by either Porsche Sepia Brown:

    or Porsche Bahama Yellow:

  8. Black paint still hasn't arrived so another claim has gone in.

Painted the steering box and clamp with metallic silver enamel:

And painted the spring plates silver aswell just to break up some of the blackness as everything else is gonna be gloss black.

Need a couple of door bottom repair panels but they end up stupidly priced once postage is added.

  9. zeb buy the up to 64 door skin then cut it just below door handle straight across , make s for a tidier repair and less filler

  10. heres some pics of the door i done using early door skin and lower frame

  12. Nice repair.

Its only the bottom 2" thats needed on one plus they both need the inners.
I bought a pair of replacements but one was more full of filler than i wanted when i started stripping it. It was also a '72> door so the handle recess was different. :(

I need new hinge pins on one door as they were both seized in the hinge and complete hinges for the other as they were bent from the door swinging open too far.
Trying to find someone locally with a lathe that can make me some oversize pins as i ain't spending £15 each for them.

  13. Sepia brown

  14. Fran isn't keen on it being poo brown but i think it looks like melted chocolate in the right light.
We both like this Porsche colour though:

    Porsche Aubergine.

This RAL colour comes pretty close:

I've wanted a purple beetle for about 25 years now so maybe its time while i have the chance?

I painted the front beam gloss black this morning so it can have the whole day drying off in the sun.:)

Got to do an upper balljoint and a pair of tierod ends on my caravelle this afternoon which will hopefully tame the wayward handling a little.
Theres bloody loads of speed humps round here which are trashing the joints nicely. :(

  15. Well the bits that were in the sun dried lovely but the underside of the tubes and shock towers haven't at all. :(

  17. But it was wet. Didn't want to get hand prints in the paint.:p

    More unexciting paint photos.:D
Finally got the axle tubes painted.

Gave the track rods a coat too while i was at it.

  18. Had the beam fall from where it was hanging, chipping some paint off it and denting the front 1/4 panel slightly.

  19. Still haven't managed to get the bolt holding the pitman arm onto the box undone even after days of soaking it in penetrating oil and using a blowlamp.

Painted the torsion arms up but as it was so nice outside i went for a ride on my bike. Great fun these suspension forks.:D

  20. Got given some cash and a JK cift card for my birthday so gonna do some parts shopping.
Can't find the parts list i made up months (or possibly years ) ago so having to start from scratch again and the JK site isn't the most user friendly.

Getting disillusioned about how much still needs to be done and how much i still have to spend to do it. :(
