Mine didn't look too bad but getting stuck in revealed a real horror story ..

^this. If it's the base of the metal collar (one on each side), that's not necessarily too bad. The rear tube will still be supported. If rot has spread to the chassis rails, that's a bigger job.

 

rot is rot no way round it it needs repaired

 

I don’t think anyone is suggesting not repairing it owen.

 

i was nt suggesting that , but when its rotten it needs proper repair, not a load of fillers pushed in and seam sealed , off which ive seen a lot of over the years

You’ll be pleased to know that it was exactly that, just the bottom of the collar, tube and chassis fine

All sealed up and painted, hopefully last another 40 years
