@poptop2 just as there is 'care in the community' so there must be 'don't care in the community'.

I err on the side of caution.

I bought one of these and can safely say that there is no commonality between a van and a Mulsanne Turbo.

    This is bad bad advice.

  8. Didn't Tom Jones have a Mulsanne turbo...?

No - he had a Bloody Mulsanne Turbo and he Bloody Loved it.

    To Bloody death.

  11. I'm not taking the ******* , ask a proper serious question and you will get proper answers, if you don't want to take advice or use google or the search function then you will get a Marmite load of smartass comments , everyone has to start somewhere but these things are 40 years old and dead easy to work on with limited tools plus there are 'how to' videos as well .

  12. curious synchronistic juxtaposition between my photo of a wisened 100 year old lady and "The Voice".....

1, 4 and 5 are the same thing which sounds like a leaking rear brake cylinder. This will have contaminated the shoes so you need a new cylinder and new shoes. As shoes come in a set for both back wheels and they'll have both sides dismantled, ask them to replace both cylinders even if one seems ok. They cost very little and after 7 years sitting the other will follow and you'll then be in for another bill and another set of shoes. Also ask them to replace all the hydraulic fluid - again, they'll be bleeding and topping up the system anyway, so another £2 of hydaulic fluid and a few minutes longer.

That little lot shouldn't be costing you more than £100 + vat inc parts, but the other items - rust could be anything.

  14. If you dont have the skills and arent confident then dont even attempt it. Ditto Zeds comments above but likely the brake pipes will shear off the cylinders so they might end up being replaced (unless yer mechanic is old school and used to being gently with things like that).

You are in the situation of repairing it cos you want a camper. either that or flog it. The work you describe doesnt sound expensive and could give you a year on the road and during which you can come to techenders, get some skills/confidence and hone your skills in absorbing having the ******* taken and improving on comebacks. Daft questions are fine if people are convinced you are genuine and with spanner in hand and frustration of your face and a part in your hand saying - should I have this left over, will go a long way to getting all the help you need (and plenty of ******* taken)!

He doesn't want to Dicky, anymore than any of my mostly non-forum using customers want to either!
Nor did I come to think of it.
I used to pay others to fix mine - I could earn faster (clean and sitting in the warm) than they could run up the bill. Ahhhh, the heady days when the only contact I had with my van was using it... brilliant!
