is it still the case that an mot insp. isn"t allowed to remove any part to inspect a.n.other part? specifically, the under dash wiring in my bus is exposed in so much that every individual wire i can see /touch readily and that is how i wish it, but ,as they "hang" and as i sort of understand it has now become part of mot >>>inspect wires for insecurity/chaffing ,>ive moved said wires upwards and fitted carboard sheets so they cannot be seen, including fuse box, so is mot bloke allowed to remove the carboard sheets? ta 4 advice /wisdom
What he said, I dont think they'll be that interested. If you have a trailer socket hanging out the back with wires dangling around the engine then you might have trouble on your hands...
pretty sure it's limited to wiring in the engine bay/around the battery (if the battery isn't in the engine bay)
Mine just passed with some old wires hanging under the dash, I believe it's more in the engine bay and make sure your battery's are fixed, Steve
Keep posting guys ! this is cheering me up !(now, if only my seat was on runners instead of being bolted down!) i shall report back ,re that one ,but not holding my breathe.
See thats the thing Baybirmingham , i asked bloke who is n mot mechanic and he would not "commit " to a straight answer ,so i opinioned that ,if , i present bus without runners /,bolted down seat, and he fails it? is it failed because it was made with runners and so should have them ? or is it getting a fail because the mot rules/laws/instructions says it isn"t safe because a.n. other driver cannot adjust said seat ? i am of the school who does what i think needs doing pre mot ,but do not like to present a "shed".
sounds like he was being awkward If it has a mechanism, then it has to move... no mech, then you can't fail it
I though all they did at an mot was crowbar your track rods and stick a dildo in the exhaust. I could be wrong though
Question on fixing batteries we had new corners and battery trays. On the left the tray has no tapped hole for fixing the clamp so the leisure battery is held by gravity at the mo, do I need to fix it if so any ideas?
imo, secure your batt. otherwise i reckon a fail , could u (easily?) remove said leisure batt . for duration of mot and then refit(thou i would still want it secured ), i think the m.o.t. thinking is " if u crash ,batt .may become a very nasty "live"projectile ,with all that could entail.i"ll stop short of saying how i would secure it as i run a basic almost "rat " type bus , >>not pretty!(as if rats, living, are ever pretty?)
Finally a loose battery, be it main or leisure is now an MOT failure. I can't believe it wasn't until the 2013 changes that this came into place.
I thought a loose battery was always a fail prior to this year? Anyway I have used the metal tie downs from halfords for my leisure battery. Easy to fit and only takes two minutes and two holes http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...&productId=225569&categoryId=255205&langId=-1
I think it was an advisory... but opening the bonnet was never part of the MOT, it now is... Battery, engine electrics and mounts are all now checked as part of the MOT
