Modern car sterios on standby - why such a current drain?

  1. I've a car stereo set up in my garage, powered from a car battery, but it drains very quickly. On checking, it seems to be drawing 130mA on standby, just to retain the memory settings.

There's a lot to be said for car stereos of the T2 era, when they used no current at all when switched off ;)

  2. that does seem pretty high- generally if an entire car is drawing over 50mA (ignition off), something's up.

  3. Yep, it's a real issue... my head unit can flatten a 096 battery in 4 days

And that's on my daily golf... I'm now contemplating some sort of hook-up to keep the battery charged while I'm not using it... If I don't it'll kill the cells in my battery :(
