  1. Hi.
The green & yellow tape on the switch has been like that since I bought it. What you say is very possibly right, considering other botch jobs I’ve stumbled across. Silly of me to not think about taking a closer look at it. I’m new to anything electrical so I suppose that put me off but I’ve nothing to loose now from putting a better connection in it.
The red electrical tape in other pics is just marking wires that I’ve done ‘something’ with so that I can show a pro some day.
I’ve not the skill to solder in situ unfortunately...can’t even do it in the garage

  2. When I moved the earths to other locations the lights still worked but were very dim, so I figured their original locations were doing the job. I can definitely clean their connecting points up better and see if that gives me High Beam once more.
    Cheers

Where are you located - still in London ?

If you’re in SW London I have a multimeter and a soldering iron and willing to travel.

No guarantees - but I can read a wiring diagram and can crimp & solder.

  4. A most kind offer!
I’m actually based just outside of Cranleigh, in Surrey, now. I can travel too...only current driving issue is the lights. My time is pretty flexible.
    I’ll send you a message :)

PS. Just Remembered. Monday 17th of December I’m home all day waiting for a British Gas engineer.

Isn’t it heartwarming when this kind of thing happens. Well done @stirlingmoz

  9. BIG THANKS to Stirlingmoz for his sterling efforts with regards to getting me back on the road safely at night!
It was an education in troubleshooting electrical issues, using a plethora of methods. Continuity testing, fuse box wiring checks...relay put in another vehicle and even doing something to bypass the relay; which proved that the bulbs were capable of High Beam. The leaver was checked and the switch (which apparently has its own unique wiring completely at odds with the diagram...but it works).

For those who want the solution:
It was a brown wire that had come disconnected from the dash something so simple in the end.

Thank you so much for giving up your precious time
