Life's choices

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by sjhjoinery, Nov 30, 2013.

  1. I'm beginning to learn that life is full of choices whether it be business or family.
You always seem to look back and say why didn't I buy that or do this and in life you never have a second chance. You either take it or leave it or choose left or right.
I have had a few decisions to make recently and you can choose the easy option or the middle or the hard option each effects your life in different ways, money mostly dictates this but sometimes you have to go with instinct and what feels right.
As for a few of us on this forum, a few of us are more vocal than others but I am a firm believer In If you don't try you'll never know. If you fail you know you have made a Bad desision.but if you succeed it was right, but until you try you'll never know.
I made a choice to go self employed which until recently I have never looked back! But recently I have, but it's not until people point out the benefits that you take for granted out to you, you realise the life you have.
I am currently making a decision in life that could affect it for better or for worse but if all else fails there is always a second option which I think people take for granted.
If you don't try you'll never know and that's what I believe in, so I will try it and if it fails I know there is an option to fall back on.
Whether it be as a qualified joiner or working in a packing factory 8-5.

At least you can say you tried your damned at what you believed in!!!

And as long as you have your family beside you, you will be happy!! As that's what it's all about, you can have all the money in the world but with no one to share it with you're worthless!! And that's what it's all about.

It takes time to realise this and some people don't which I have found out today.

    One life live it!!

  3. what is the second option?

Self employment is great, if your a grafter ,if your fit and healthy,if you have a good client base and if you have something to fall back on...

you are right about the path, one decision can effect a lot of people..

It is the ability to make decisions that helps tremendously when you work for yourself. Firstly there is the decision to go it alone and change your life in some radical way. Then there are all the day to day decisions that someone has to make - and that someone is you. They won't always be right first time, but recognising the options and keeping at least one open, is always good. You can waste a lot of your life cogitating.

Good luck with whatever it is you've decided

What I say to my kids is "go for it, you can always change your mind later". Works for me when in doubt.

  11. When I was younger I was quite good at mountain biking, I got sponsored and into magazines and stuff, but I never pushed myself and was never as good as I could have been, and I regret that. So when I had that moment of realisation a few years ago as I head towards 40 that life doesn't go on forever, I made the decision to try to make the most of any opportunities. If you don't try you'll never know.
    Good luck:)

work wise i've always respected people who have the balls to do what they want or enjoy, a job to me is a nessecary evil - i work in the bare minimum of a job i can get away with in order to pay my bills, i hate going to work and could happily pack it in tomorrow, i don't regret not having a "career" although i know i'm worth far more than what i do - i fell into the ratrace and i don't really mind - as long as i pay my way and have a bit left over i've done enough, sadly the bit left over gets smaller with each year.

    Care to elaborate Scott?

You don't seem 100% happy being self employed, but at the same time you have work until feb/march.

What's up - there's plenty on here that can offer good advice.... doesn't mean you have to listen.

  14. you only live once, I love going to work ,I would HATE going to work and not enjoying it, I would rather go on the dole...

there must be something you enjoy doing and would get paid for it....?

I have learnt that it more important to do something you enjoy
I use to think it was important to take home a good wage and have a work path but its not
A good portion of your life/energy is spent working so you should do something you want to do.

You have a good trade behind you so you will be able to fall back on it if what ever you do doesn't work out

i doubt i could make my wages a month doing something i like, the aim for me is to earn enough to pay my bills in the least amount of hours possible with the least amount of responsibility, how many of you lot can leave any thought of work there at bang on 5.30 and not give a crap until the next morning at 8?
