Leisure battery advice

  1. I don't have a leisure battery so I'm planning on buying one in the next couple of days. Is there anything special I should be looking for? Any recommendations as to the best type to get? I'll just be running small lights, kettle, stereo off it.

Realised I had live wires in my engine bay that should have been connected to the leisure battery. They were wrapped in an old wrag with 'after sex towel' written on it!

  2. You will soon deplete a leisure battery using a 12 volt kettle off it
It will be quicker and far more efficient using the gas hob and a camping kettle

Ercosol 110ah is the biggest that will fit in the battery tray without fouling the spare wheel well im told

  3. i'm assuming that whoever wrapped the "after sex towel" around the cables didnt want anyone touching them, :D

I would be concerned with the JK one without knowing whos made it.
As Para said or a Banner battery are the best and good value

  6. Go outdoors sometimes have decent deals on with leisure batteries ;)

  7. if you know someone with a halfords trade card, they work out very cheap, and if you go for the one with a 4 year life, you should be sorted for a good while too!

  8. Cheers for the advice. My plan was to use the leisure battery so I could stop anywhere, plug the kettle in and make a brew. Are the 110 amp ones the way to go? Are Numax any good? We have a Go Outdoors here so I may go and have a look tomorrow.

A 12v kettle would need a lot of current to boil in a reasonable time. If you consider a small mains kettle rated at 600w that would be 50 amps at 12v, normal mains kettles are usually 2000 to 3000 watts.
A cigarette lighter type socket would manage around 10 amps and therefore only 120 watts, the water could probably evaporate quicker!

With A inverter it well boil quicker but will need to be a big one and the battery life will be worse as you will have the inverter losses as well
