Hi, There is a 1973 (L) Bay in my local scrapyard. It sadly cannot leave the yard as in was abandoned and towed in by request of the local council. It is in poor order but complete albeit minus it's engine, gearbox and brake servo. It is a pop top model but I forget which type ? (Not Westfalia) .Would hate to see it crushed until all parts have been salvaged. The yard is A1 Recycling in Wokingham. They are very useful but have the policy of lots of cars so no real details over the phone just to come and have a look.
I need to grab the headlights off this. Shame I can’t get there until next Sunday at the earliest, probably will be crushed by then!
I wonder if it’s on the stolen list! Potentially a nice restoration project for someone Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's got doors, mirors, window glass, lights and who knows what inside. These are the kinds of thing which people always seem to be wanting! Surely worthwhile for someone to go down and strip it?
Good shout @Milky . Why aren't you up there with your tool box stripping it out and then filling up the For Sale section on here?! Start taking parts orders!
Thanks for the heads up on this. I was there this morning at 08:15 and was quickly joined by another TLB member (Nice to meet you Kevin and the loan of the tools). The bus is now on the ground near the entrance. I managed to relieve the bus of a decent engine lid, a door mirror a couple of hub caps and a courtesy light switch Still plenty left. It has deluxe door trims in good condition and deluxe padding on the walk through bulkheads. Engine and gearbox already gone. The body is pretty far gone but i'm sure it still has plenty of parts left so that others may live on. Stirlingmoz
How is the steering column? More precisely is the indicator switch still there? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I am a full time mechanic so not too keen , hence why my Westie has been offoad for 10 ish years.I did get the engine and gearbox yesterday but really not interested in all the hassle of removing and reselling.
Are you keeping that for yourself? Or are you willing to sell some of those parts? (I might be interested on the engine lid based on condition)
Sorry fella - I only took what I needed and I need the engine lid for my crew cab project. It needs work but at £40 with a number plate light unit, the hinges and the catch, I thought it was worth a punt. Kevin removed the indicator switch. It was the 72 / 73 flat paddle type. Obviously untested but it looked in good condition. Stirlingmoz
Did you get the flexi heater pipes between the heat exchangers and the 'Y' piece ? That was something I hoped was still there. Stirlingmoz
I do have a NOS thermostat that has never been used. It is for a T2 1600 engine and is surplus to my camper which has the 1800 T4 engine.
