Apologies if in wrong section but I was thinking that a GRP bumper covered in a chrome vinyl wrap or sprayed with a chrome paint wouldn't rust or look pants after a drive in the rain. Am I crazy?
In white... and the postage is ridiculous on them!! Bumpers in GRP are on my to-do list... front ones will have the number plate recess in them too
You should be able to take a mould from mine dude Also you could take a mould from my rear bumper after the fog light recesses are made
Paul, as a side question but on the same GRP topic - what's the biggest item that can be fabricated in GRP. Without prompting belly aching laughs but could a bus shell be done?
Yes - Dub Box make their splitty-based caravans out of GRP, Marc Doyle (dogs'n'dubs) makes trailers in GRP, (Retrolight Trailers https://www.facebook.com/pages/Retrolight-Trailers/284907861533375?ref=ts&fref=ts) and there's a company on Facebook called Vanana Splits https://www.facebook.com/VananaSplits who are planning on making replica Splitscreen campers with a GRP shell mounted on a metal chassis.
I helped on the build of a full size 737 engine cowling made in GRP. Just needs some reinforcing behind it.
I still can't figure out why the new Brazilian bays bodies weren't made of GRP or aluminium? Instead of rust.
I work with composites for the space industry (mainly carbon fibre / Kevlar and a little fibreglass) almost anything is possible a few years back I helped make some parts for the super bus http://www.superbusproject.com/
I have a mate who as a composite shop ( supplier to F1 teams ) and I keep trying to make him make me a Carbon pop top.... He thinks I'm joking...
It'd probably be easier to do it in sections, then have a jig to bond it all together!! But most yacht hulls are grp, so size isn't an issue, it's how complex the part is, as you then have to start making sectional moulds!!
1 question : Why did VW put bumpers on the van? : answer to protect you and the van from damage! Nuff said.
