Personally I’d head for wasdale, and maybe ennerdale, to get away from it all. There’s a town centre site in Keswick. Low Wray is lovely on the side of Windermere, similarly the places on coniston.
I once invented the Pake District. I shouted out "watch out for the Pake District" and the friend driving the car swerved and nearly hit the kerb .. on entry to the Peak District.
No contest, Lakes. Peak for a long weekend or TBH mid week gets to rammed for my liking. Yes I know Keswick is Blackpool in the fells at times, but there are places you can find some solitude.
Shhhhh! keep it quiet! Western lakes even quieter and the coast is tip top if you dont mind nuclear reactors.
