Is this the cause of my problems

I have had no tickover since the mot and a smell of fumes through the heating .

On the way to the mot i heard a clank , i thought it was the brakes but since then these problems have been persistent , i did check the exhaust before the mot and i was sure all the clamps were there :-

    nearside heat exchanger connection -

Off side connection - no clamp -

Is it really critical enough to cause my prblems ?.

Ahh , got ya stumped with that one !.

  3. Poor exhaust joints or exhaust can cause idling probs, but unlikely.

Stick a clamp on anyway. You'll have to take the whole exhaust off to fit the "brillo pad" gasket, if there's not one there already. You may get true exhaust fumes coming in through the heating, so worth doing.

  4. My guess is, if something should be there it should be there for a reason, is that soot all over the exchanger blown out by the exhaust? And as to wether its causing the problems you put a clamp on it, and if the problems stop it was that ;)

    :D

    yes and yes

  6. Leaking exhaust near the manifold will definitely cause poor running problems. Should be an MOT fail as well FAIK.

  7. I had same problem when replacing exhaust, everything arrived except those compression clamps. Would not idle at all until i got some fitted. I was told that the engine relies on back pressure to be able to idle. :)

JK also have the clamps as a part of an exhaust fitting kit.

  17. That's the right kit...you can see the wire mesh gaskets sitting inside the clamps. You need these so so the whole lot clamps down firmly on the straight pipes out of the exchangers. A good slathering of exhaust sealant helps :).

  18. Tried to call you malc to talk you through me pics but here they are anyway , like snotty says your 4into 1 doesnt appear to be their and you have your flexy coming thru the tinwear ?? am i right , coz you should have HE pod and female coupling con thru tin wear to connect flex and pod. Call me if you want ,excuse my rusty bottom and flex on top fitted thru tin with female coupling that goes in top o pod thru ti and onto flex got it? jk do them and the flat clamp bands sep so from top like this.

Thanks Barney , got any more pics bud , i want mine looking like that .

  20. You might have trouble. The pods don't really fit if you've got a 4-into-1..there's not really room, and they'll clout the folded exhaust pipes.

Usually remedy is to run the heater pipes through the tinware and connect them directly to the HEs (with something more substantial than gaffer tape :) )
