Is my front beam dead?

  1. I agree with @monkeyvanwestybike straight in the bin.
If that think goes you will be very very lucky to walk away. My old one wasn't as bad as that! My mechanic and good freind used to be a MOT inspector and once he found welding on it that was that. We even cut the old one up so no one would be able to sell it on.
    Please replace it!

  2. I quite like the look of the CE beam.

I have fitted a few CE beams. They are very nicely made bits of kit. You sometimes have to wait for them though..

I understand there not cheap but there's a lot of engineering in them
    I was very very lucky
I bought one of a lovely chap that upgraded to a new one. Carrying it was fun. I was so excited when I got home I was gonna paint it only to find it had all the original paint on it the bean was from South Africa and £150 like I said,
Very very lucky. @monkeyvanwestybike has a lovely bus and the stance looks great so take his advice.

  6. I have had no problems with mine
Ride is good on a mild drop
Just set it how you want it before you
    Choose your shocks :)

I've seen beams much worse than yours repaired (on here) with no problems at mot time.
Did you have a word with the tester?

  9. I'm sure a welded beam is a fail . Some of the pigeon poo welding I have seen on this forum you would not want on your beam ...its structural and most of the welding ( not all) I've seen on here is done with a crappy welder with no penetration and all the weld ground off to look pretty ....that said if it's TIG welded properly it should be as strong as before ... The MOT tester doesn't know if your beam is structurally sound or holes filled with filler then painted .if it looks fine it's a pass ...the red 9 coil overs put all the weight of the bus on the shock Towers which is a bit of a no no but will still pass an MOT ...Are the new beams be it French slammer or any others TUV tested or come with any paperwork showing a qualified welder welded it and it's fit for purpose ?

    My mo
My MOT station has just welded mine for me. Though it was rusted in a different area. It was rusty right at the bottom on both sides also on both sides of the pressings £80 . The welding is obvious and although ground down its not seamless .

  12. Interesting point about the red9

  13. More like a Double knee replacement

  14. Had mine welded last year for the MOT by the MOT station and it passed with this done. I would say the quality of the welding was very good and looks like the same will be needed on the other side this year.
Reading this thread with interest as would like to replace my beam as well and want to remain stock.

  15. Ordered a Creative engineering beam today. Should take around three weeks lead time. Very helpful on the phone.

  16. The red 9 coilovers kit does that but not the red 9 beam, the beam is designed around the shocks and wishbone suspension

  17. What width did you go for?

  18. Yes that's true IMHO the coil over kit is an accident waiting to happen ....but if you look at the red 9 beam set up all the weight of the bus is on one ball joint each side where as a standard bus set up shares the weight between all 4 ball joints .
It's not a light weight sports car .....
