Is it wrong to fit a westfalia louvred window to my van?

  1. To be honest we have a Devon and the frame of the louvres is very intrusive hence why I asked the question. Westy ones are different it seems I'd rather ask a stupid question than risk someone fitting something they shouldn't. As the louvres open from the top then yes they will clear but if they pivoted in the middle then they may hit. Again pardon my ignorance but unless you know nothing is obvious.

And it's not a daft question, a daft question is where the hell did I put my bag of new jets I bought for my Weber carbs that I put in a safe place and now I can't find the f--ing things

Your not ignorant at all ,unless you can see something in the flesh sometimes it's hard to imagine how it works

Westy ones break, rattle and are tedious to operate, they're also handed and as pointed out have to be screwed to the door. They look so wrong inside people have started making an extra seal to cover the bodgery.

Devon ones are far superior with locking easy to use handles, you can open either half and they fit neatly with a standard window seal. The only downside is the handles stick out when open so maybe no good on sliding door.

Louvres are better than sliding windows when it rains.

  10. I'd put it on the unit side if it's near your hob. That way steam from the kettle and cooking smells escape through your louvres easily and quickly.

  15. I fitted 'Devon' Louvered windows to our bus back in 1977, they are still as good as new ............. rattled since day one!
I had a 'fouling' problem with the long handles sticking out so far that the glass lid for the Hob (fitted at the resto.) could not fully open 90+ degrees.
Problem was solved by cutting off the long handles, just leaving 20mm for your fingers to grip, close to the pivot point, to open and close the window.
    Works a treat.
Devon windows for the sliding door have a different 'stowable' handle, simple and works well.

  16. Change of plan then I'm going to add a wanted thread for a Devon louvered window.
I Bought the westy one a while back and obviously didn't do enough research and I'm not to happy about drilling all those holes in my new paint work.

  17. The holes are in the van
The screws pass through into the slot in the window:)
