Is it wrong to fit a westfalia louvred window to my van?

  1. Daft question I know but I'm at the stage of fitting all the glass back into my van after the respray after two years hard graft.
My van has a Danbury roof and interior but the Mrs wants a vented window in the van but I'm worried it won't look right.
The interior is more than likely being replaced but the pop top will remain.
If I do fit it where's best to put it, sliding door or unit side and do you think it would look out of place ?

I have a Danbury with louvre Windows on the sliding door, my van my choice, if the wife wants louvre Windows then put them on

  3. Good call thanks Barry is there any security issues with it being on the sliding door

  4. Who's van is it eh ;) who cares what people say. I wouldn't fit it in the sliding door for many reasons, one being if you left the louvre window open and opened the door you could have some nasty scraping noises and it might look a little naff (ooh did I say don't care what others say lol). I would say opposite the sliding door is the only place to put it especially if you are going to put a hob in.

  5. Any window on a bus is a security issue as they come out so easy

To fit a proper Westy window you have to drill around 20 holes in the door to screw it on with

  7. Why not the sliding door !!!!! ? I've louvres in my westy both sides.

  8. Good point @nigelcp and it makes sense to have it on the unit side. Drill holes @davidoft ?
Which brings me onto my next question where can I get a gasket set from for it before Tuesday?

Westy windows are screwed in, the screws pass through the lip of the window frame on the van and into the aluminium window frame

I've had louvre Windows on my sliding door for 5 years, no scrapping noises, no security issues, @davidoft is correct the rubber goes on the door frame then the louvre window is screwed on by about 15-20 screws through the aluminium window frame

  11. Ok so what gaskets are used to keep it water tight

  12. I'd best have a closer look at the louvred window I don't recall their being any holes in it

  13. I like the devon ones but dont think you can safely fit to slider, could be wrong! Why not fit to fixed widow opposite door!

  14. No idea to be frank but was airing on the side of caution. If it works it works. Just was worried about the possibility of catching an open window while opening the door.

You can't because the louvre window is on the door

  16. I think I might fit it to the unit side opposite the slider but time will tell will that one upto the boss. Just been looking at some how to videos on YouTube and kind of get the idea now.
The gasket sets seem to be out of stock though so might struggle getting hold of one.

  17. So if the windows are open in the door there's plenty of clearance so it doesn't catch the bodywork when opening the door?

  18. I think so @nigelcp as the louvers pivot from the top opening outwards and not from the middle so the glass doesn't move inwards when opened

The louvre is on the door, so think about it, the door comes out and slides and the louvre is always on the outside so obviously doesn't and can't hit anything

If the louvre was on the back window and was left open then the sliding door would hit it and smash it to pieces
