also as my van has been improved how do you value it ?

  2. Took it to a restorer who runs a local club and he wrote me a letter with a valuation. Sent this off with some photos and that was that.

  3. I'm with a company called glynwood. Recommend by the vwt2oc. But I won't be using them again! I still think they have my camper undervalued but wouldn't budge.

Just renewed through Heritage, with Norton Ins. £130 with agreed value, 3000m, legal cover and full euro breakdown/recovery..

  5. No one seems to pay anything like the 220 quid I paid! Mines insured for 14000 though. How's that compare with yours if you don't mind me asking?!

Funnily enough, increased mine to £14k last year, although been told to increase it further, so will be looking to get a new valuation soon - no doubt the insurance will increase but still can't grumble...

  7. Peter James. Very competitive quotes and were great when I had a claim last year. Fully comp, unltd miles, uk and European breakdown, and 4 named drivers on bus and bug £301.

  8. Do you have yours valued by the vwt2oc or someone else?

  9. im with jk - 5000 miles £200 pa and £11 for agreed valuation. all been good thus far

  10. Good question. I insured for the purchase price plus a bit for add ons, but I reckon I will need more once I have finished with it. I guess you have to look at the market value of similar vans, take a view on your own, and then suggest a value to the insurance company with photos. Carole Nash just said yes to what I proposed.
Good to know you have had a positive experience with them.

  11. mines just over £200 - value £7500

JK ask for photos and evidence of any improvements and they either agree with your value or suggest otherwise

just remembered mine is now garaged that is cheaper must call them

  13. Try local brokers, often works out better, im near as Romford as well and use performance direct, they are just outside the market, im 30 and fully comp on my bus was £120 same for the bug so yours should be even cheaper being a grown up, and if you want agreed value i think you just send in some pics, although i never have, should really

  14. Well I had mine valued by the vwt2oc in the flesh for 15000 but glynwood disagreed and wouldn't insure it for more than 14000! They know better by looking at 6 pictures! To say I wasn't happy is an understatement!

  16. They are crafty buggers anyway even if they agree £1500 they will still try and knock it down if you lost it saying things like "current market" etc

  17. Not old boy, just world wise

  18. Im currently with HIC they want £279

seems they added to the price

    £85 recovery
    £15 personal protection
    £15 keycare

    £30 admin fee

    Subtotal 164

    3k limited milage

  19. I think you get what you pay for!!! Sorry to quote you Spongebob but £130!!! Seems far too cheap!!!!

Think of it this way, your covering a 40 year old bus and the owner wants euro breakdown! Chances of a breakdown? High?? How can you cover this and normal risk for £130?

We then ask the question why the Insurer squirms when they are asked to pay out!!!

Used them for years with various older cars, and never had a problem. Their claims record is also good. The breakdown cover was included automatically, not asked for or wanted...although I was a bit pee'd about the £20 admin fee.

Please don't be under any illusion that the more you pay for insurance, the better the cover/policy/underwriters/claims etc, etc. 'cause it ain't like that. I worked in the insurance business for 19 years, and trust me I know.
Just run a quote for a modern car through comparethemarket, and look at the huge difference from those at the top of the list and those further down.

You'll only know if your insurers are any good when you need to claim....whether you've paid £130 or £230 isn't going to affect how they react to a claim when you're talking about a £10k+ bus.
