  1. When VW done away with the removable rear valance it made our job harder
I have to jack the back up about 28 inchers that's the only bit I don't like :-(

If you tip the engine forward on plywood and remove the rear bumper, you can just drive the rear wheels onto a pair of ramps to get the height. Then using a jack under the middle of the rear suspension tube to lift another couple of inches.

If the engine wont run but can turn over, use the starter motor to drive it..( disconnect the ignition)

    Much safer.

  3. That's the good old power spark dizzy no points to do as I have chubbie hands for points
But I carry a spare dizzy with points

  4. was working on my own yes should have taken the bumper off
I have a motor bike jack for the engine but at its lowest its 6 inches tall
Makes it easy to pull the engine out of the back
Would not like to use ramps with no one to watch me drive on
Made wheel cribs for the front

I lower the engine then slide it off onto ply.
Also removing the fan housing while its in the engine bay wins more height.

Its actually quite hard to drive off the end of ramps, they are designed so the wheel drops into a hole and then hits effectively a 4 inch high wedge.

I dont understand the dodgy Jenga bricks under the front wheels. Should be able to do the engine without lifting the front.
Is this the motorcycle jack adding convenience and increasing other risk..

I balance my engine on a bit of plywood on a 4x4 high lift jack, so getting it on and off the jack involves physical effort but is fairly straightforward , also allows tilting the engine easily.
