indicator dash lights

Can anyone tell me our to sort out my indicators . When i indicate right the dash arrow on the right flashes and when i indicate left the right arrow flashes again ,but indicators all work correct. been like it since i got it

 

The bulb's perhaps gone on the other or a bad contact they should both flash together whichever way you indicate.

 

i thought the way u turn that one flashed ,i will try the bulb then cheers zed

 

? Mine only flashes which way you are indicating, so left one when turning left and right one when turning right.

I'd suggest a bad wire / earth or perhaps the PO has connected the wire for left and right indicators lights to the same light?

 

Zed is correct. In my experience and also from comments from others on previous threads on this when either direction is selected then both directional arrows normally flash! Dont all cars do that?

 

They're supposed to flash at the same time.. If you've got directional flashing, then someone has had a fiddle

I did it on an EB a while back... It'd got a weird relay on it with an output for the flashing dash lights and it wasn't working so I did the mod

 

My funny relay was broken.
I have a bank of 5 relays to immitate it, but the lights still flash together. I couldn't see an obvious way to make the dash lights flash seperately so I didn't.
Do tell how you did it if you can remember, I might have another bash one day.

 

I think they share the same feed from the hazard warning switch - you could wire them independantly to be fed from each of the indicator feeds off the indicator switch.

 

Hi dicky,i think you will find that most everyday cars will flash independantly on the dash. Also most vw bays
will flash together on the dash what ever direction you are turning. Just what i know my freind.

 

Wsa trying to be ironic as I know ehen I first got my first beetle, in fact for years, I was convinced they were wrong as every other car id had was the same. Then I got a bay and that was just the same!

Well, I'll count my bus special / fiddled with / broken and choose which depending on my mood.

 

mine both flash whichever way i indicate...i've got early dash bits though...

 

I'm pretty sure I just linked them into the feed to the indicators, so they flashed with the indicators as opposed to alternating

Awesome, this thread has just solved a wiring mystery for me.

I've kept away from the snakes pit as everything works but have noticed extra wires and a couple of relays that didn't seem to be original.

One I worked out was an electric button for washer jets and thanks to that samba write up, I now know what the other relay and wires are for...my individual tickers!

Looks good, and well worth doing I'd say. A mystery why VW never did it in the first place, having gone to the expense of fitting two bulbs.
