I went around Arc de Triomphe (not me driving) the other day. Not an indicator was seen to flash - bonkers - totally bonkers!

@icepug you can change the number of flashes in settings on I-drive. I think the choices are 1, 3 or 5 flashes!

  3. Nice one mate, i will check that out!!

If you intend to go right at a roundabout you should indicate right.
Then as you pass the exit before the one you intend to take you should check the left door mirror signal left and move over to the left.

People that turn left on a roundabout without indicating left are wrong.
People that go straight on without indicating left after passing the first exit are wrong.
People that turn right without indicating right when they enter the roundabout are wrong.

I consider them to be wasting my time and guess they see themselves as more important than any other road users.

  7. My driving instructor always said 12 o'clock or later: signal right.

I am always amazed that I passed my test at 08.30...

That's pretty well what I was trying to express. I picked on Beamer drivers because it was them what started it.
The point of the post really was to find out whether the exponential rise in twots behaving like this was a local or national thing. Honestly it's mad here.
Most of the roundabouts here are little ones that replaced T-junctions, so being 3 way, everyone goes right or left. There is no straight on that would be a reason to enter said RAB's without indicating.

The funniest thing here is 3 cars hit mini-RAB together all indicating right. The other 2 stop and look baffled and I carry on. :) There really are some appalling drivers out there who either expend zero brain power anticipating or really don't know what the rights of way are.

As you know I don't live far from you so can't say if its a national phenomenon, but it is becoming more common locally. I can now be sure of which roundabout it will happen on and can usually pick which drivers will and won't indicate.

There is a slightly more comical event locally which I've named the 'American standoff'. I regularly pass the entrance roundabout to Alconbury Airbase, its 3 way and god help us all if 3 Americans arrive at the three entrances simultaneously....:D

  13. i find parking in supermarkets a pain no one indicates they just steal the only parking place without a thought for older folk n bang their doors into you and scrape their trolleys down ya paintwork , even the americans :(

Got to be careful turning right at any RAB around Mildenhall for the same reason, If they haven't been in uk long, they get confuzzled and just go for it if there's a gap.

Agreed about seeing it coming too which is why I pull out in front of them. It's a shame really because overall I'd say people around here drive politely and carefully.

  15. at a three or four way mini roundabout if everybody's turning right everybody has right of way....same as an unmarked cross roads...most amusing to watch the ensuing waiting game :D

  16. I don't like any indication...takes the fun out of crashing.

  17. if you've ever been to Cairo there's no rights of way whatsoever....a completely organic process that changes continually, depending on what traffic happens to be present at the time. They sent a UK highways traffic management designer over there in the early '80s to see if he could come up with a better solution...
    he drew a blank...it's organic

First thing a Cairo driver checks when he/she goes to buy a new vehicle is the horn...that's a fact!

  18. when i was in siberia their were just large pieces of road no roundabout in the middle n they just , were very courteous.

I spend 3 weeks in Cairo and I agree. There is one simple rule there which is catch the driver's eye. If you do, you know he's seen you and won't run you down/crash into you. They drove round in the dark without lights on either - to save the battery - and just flash them on for half a second every now and again for a look.

  20. This, and I'd like to add People who signal right at a small roundabout when they are going straight on - this seems to have become insanely common round my way of late - or maybe I'm only noticing it more as I'm now frequently a passenger in a friend's HGV lorry and the swearwords that come out of their mouth when it happens leads me to check the skies for an impending apocalypse!
