    Hi all

Does anyone know the comprehensive list of amendments to an imported bus to get an MOT pass? I have been offered to go and buy an 'INSTA-'MOT (obviously wont need to take the bus) for £100 but i would at least like the first one to be real....

I know headlights as they are supposed to have a side light, and theres something about the rear lights too but dont know what. its a 67 bay.

Any help would be remarkably awesome.

Depending on the Mot test station, they will ask for side lights in the headlights with beam pattern for UK roads (our Westy has the side lights in the indicators & not in the headlights and has past for three years running ok). The rear lights, don't they have to have red brake lights with orange indicator lenses or bulbs, not sure about reversing lights or fog lights.
The rest of the items checked are usually brake efficiency, etc etc.

I'd save your £100 and put it to good use elsewhere tbh, guys like Zed, Birdy, Moley give much better advice!

  3. As mark says only the lights are different. Everything else is as per standard MOT. Might want to check what tyres it has fitted, if they're not EU or DOT they're illegal here but they never check what's written on the side wall.
    :)

  4. Your bus won't need fogs or reversing lights, though both are handy.

You need red brake and side lights (separate), orange indicators at the back, and your indicators can''t come on with your sidelights at the front (as they do on US spec vehicles). You'll also need to change the headlight glass for RHD stuff or you won't be able to get a passable headlight beam.

  5. Beam deflectors will pass on MOT if its a LHD...

  6. All I did was put rhd headlights in with integrated sidelights, saved any bother. Obviously did normal mot checks as well

i really wanted to keep the original lights, im not sure i would benefit from a more modern bulb setup unless i had a higher power feed for a higher voltage unit. It would be nice to get a good LUX rating from a bay for once.

  8. If you want to keep original lights but beam adjusters on like when you go to the continent.

think i might do that. good cheap idea. out comes the electrical tape.

  10. I'm amazed that there hasn't been any comments about the "insta-mot"

That in my book would get a call to vosa... you're playing with peoples lives by doing stuff like that!! o_O

    I didn't comment because I didn't understand it. What is an insta-mot?

I was offered an MOT for a hundred quid. That's what the insta MOT is. But I am a straight and narrow guy so nothing to worry about @Paul Weeding . I totally agree with you.

  13. A nod is as good as a wink job... someone offering MOTs regardless of whether it's road legal or not!!

    I figured as much!!

It is amazing that people still offer it these days, as vosa can drop in on you any time they like, and make you recall any vehicles that you have MOT'd that day and re-check them themselves!!

  14. This was my imported bus with tape on lights when I got it, I took the tape off and was expecting it to fail its mot but it passed 1st time, funny i didnt go back to ask if its lights were fine . [IMG].jpg.html

They can and they do. Not a very nice experience. Get a proper MOT. It,s for your own benefit.

Oh, a bent MOT. No, I don't think I'd go for one of those. I would have when I was a poor penniless 17 year old though.
