  3. I've been thinking about getting a Makita one for a while now, not sure I can justify the money though. Looking at either the dtw285z or the dtw450z. Apparently they have undoing torques of 400nm and 730nm so will probably deal with most things

I have a Clark 230v one and to be honest it’s a bit disappointing

It’s very big and heavy and it couldn’t undo some wheel nuts that I undone wit a 2’ bar

Air ones are good but you do need a big compressor

  5. Yes, and no. Mine is a good few years old now (1/2 one) - but on a full charge will deal with everything I've thrown it at. In our workshop, one of the guys uses a MAC air gun as a back up which is the only tool which will remove crank nut on some of our cars. But for ease of use, durability (and a bit of bling) the battery gun does the job. I'd highly recommend one, but heard good things about Milwalkee/Dewalt/Makita so I'm sure others have their own opinions.

Personally, I think it's one of those things to invest in - if you get a Lidl or equivillant you may find it's so under powered that you'll stop using it and go back to 5ft breaker bars etc (I'm prepared to stand corrected however?) - it's one of those things to invest in as it makes all the difference. I'm not "snap-on" mad, most of my tools are Halfords pro etc mind....

  7. Yep, Halfords Pro are fine. Folk must be mad to pay SnapOn’s prices.

    That Clarke 230v one claims 550Nm ,
so I would suggest that one that claims closer to 1000Nm might be able to undo wheel nuts as well.
As I bent a 3/4" breaker bar (almost twisted the end off) undoing my wheelnuts the first time, it may well be optimistic expecting any battery powered tool to have the grunt.

  10. Have dewalt 18v 1/2", after snapping our halford professional breaker bar it undid rear hub nuts. Borrowed a mates old hilti and it wouldnt budge them. Use it on all bolts that are a struggle to get ratchet in too.
